look i'm no big fan of the chinese state but it remains baffling to me that AI 2027/AI 2040 all have this weirdly Cold Warish understanding of China

if they accomplish AGI, what exactly do people think the Chinese will do?

IDK, this feels like a mischaracterization of AI 2040? The point is that if the US tries racing, China will do the same, and if the US wants a deal (which is the choice the AI Futures Institute recommends), China will also want a deal. China's hardly portrayed as a bogeyman in the scenario. If anything the scenario portrays this as in the hands of the US.
