Elon Musk and investors offering $97.4 billion for control of OpenAI, WSJ reports

Feb 10 2025 4:21 PM EST

Elon Musk is leading a group of investors in offering to buy control of OpenAI for $97.4 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

The bid is for the nonprofit that oversees the artificial intelligence startup, the Journal reported, adding that Musk’s attorney, Marc Toberoff, said he submitted the offer on Monday.

The WSJ cited a statement from Musk provided by Toberoff, saying “It’s time for OpenAI to return to the open-source, safety-focused force for good it once was.”

In a post on X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote, “no thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want.”

All he wants is control over artificial general intelligence and his name stamped all over it as if he was the brainchild behind it. Grok is non-useful, and I hardly ever hear about it in regard to pushing the boundaries of machine learning or workflows.

In any case, good luck elmo in the coming Coporate War with Mirco$oft. I understand absolutely no one should be rooting for one mega-corp over another, but things will be absolutely worse if Elon gains control over any form of AGI or ASI. People are delusional if they honestly believe Elon in control would allow the people to benefit from the technology in any meaningfully good way.

Introducing GPT-4.5

February 27, 2025

We’re releasing a research preview of GPT‑4.5—our largest and best model for chat yet. GPT‑4.5 is a step forward in scaling up pre-training and post-training. By scaling unsupervised learning, GPT‑4.5 improves its ability to recognize patterns, draw connections, and generate creative insights without reasoning.

Early testing shows that interacting with GPT‑4.5 feels more natural. Its broader knowledge base, improved ability to follow user intent, and greater “EQ” make it useful for tasks like improving writing, programming, and solving practical problems. We also expect it to hallucinate less.

We’re sharing GPT‑4.5 as a research preview to better understand its strengths and limitations. We’re still exploring what it’s capable of and are eager to see how people use it in ways we might not have expected.

My hypothesis about GPT-4.5
Image
Don't get caught up in the numbers, they're just arbitrary

4o at its maximum (as we've seen with o3) outperforms 4.5, even though 4.5 is a much deeper and wider knowledge pool. 4.5 at its maximum may very well eclipse o3 by an order of magnitude at least

This tracks completely to what Andrew Ng described last year about reasoning models (iterative agent workflows)

And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future

The end gave me chills. I thought a human was writing the post the whole time.
To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

I knew it!

I said earlier this week, it seemed a lot smarter. :) Good to have this upgrade confirmed.
