where, argument? social media.
Where the proposed ban? everywhere. they want nobody to use this 'thieving' software. Because "it steals artist work without asking" and allow something something to earn money from an artists work without their permission somehow.

I was on an adult website recently, discovered some nice pictures, looked for the artist tag, and discovered that it was made by AI. Apparently people are already using stable diffusion to create erotic art works.

So that's a thing that exists now. What a time to be alive.

I think this is all another version of mechanization and robotization taking people's jobs away. I suppose it is hard enough for creative artists to compete against other creative artists. To compete against AI must be especially threatening and/or humiliating.

The emotional impulses seem similar to the Luddites.

Perhaps if artists can be trained to use the new technologies and have access to the relevant hardware and software. That would seem fair given their earlier contribution to the art world. I suspect it is probably a case of easier said than done, especially if there is an insistence on measuring past contributions. How do you calibrate such a thing?

Was this (see link) moved from this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2703

I don't mind if it was, but a heads up with links would be nice in such cases. Said links going in both directions. Just my two cents.

Let's provide them with basic income and their reasons for feeling threatened go away. In that case, art once again becomes a solitary endeavor of passion. Nearly all of the artists I know do it largely for themselves but they admit they still need to make money to make ends meet. If we take away the financial part of the equation, they go will back to their initial reason for being involved in this field. I suspect they will largely not care about what AI will do for art.
To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

It's already doing it, it's just that many can't or won't afford it.

What to Expect from AI in 2023
by Kyle Wiggers
December 26, 2022

Introduction:
(TechCrunch) As a rather commercially successful author once wrote, “the night is dark and full of terrors, the day bright and beautiful and full of hope.” It’s fitting imagery for AI, which like all tech has its upsides and downsides.

Art-generating models like Stable Diffusion, for instance, have led to incredible outpourings of creativity, powering apps and even entirely new business models. On the other hand, its open source nature lets bad actors use it to create deepfakes at scale — all while artists protest that it’s profiting off of their work.

What’s on deck for AI in 2023? Will regulation rein in the worst of what AI brings, or are the floodgates open? Will powerful, transformative new forms of AI emerge, à la ChatGPT, disrupting industries once thought safe from automation?
