Sharing pornographic deepfakes to be illegal in England and Wales

A planned new law would make sharing pornographic deepfakes without consent a crime in England and Wales.

Tackling the rise in manipulated images, where a person's face is put on someone else's body, is part of a crackdown on the abuse of intimate pictures in the Online Safety Bill.

This law would also make it easier to charge people with sharing intimate photos without consent.

Prosecutors would no longer need to prove they intended to cause distress.

In some cases under the existing law, men have admitted sharing women's intimate images without consent, but have not been prosecuted because they said they did not intend to cause any harm.

The government says around one in 14 adults in England and Wales say they have been threatened with their intimate images being shared against their will.

It also says there are growing global concerns about technology being used to create fake pornographic images and video, with one website which creates nude images from clothed ones receiving 38 million visits last year.

A thought that I just had a few minutes ago - this technology might be the only way we can truly enjoy our current archive of video media in the future the same way we do now. I don't know if this is true or not, maybe someone can fact check me, but I remember reading or hearing many years ago that cats register images faster than humans do; so to a cat our movies and tv shows seem more like a sped up PowerPoint presentation than a continuous thing. We register images slower, so the frame rate can be smaller while still giving us the illusion that everything is moving at real time speed. In the future transhumans or posthumans are likely to have advanced this aspect of ourselves so we process images faster, so we'll notice the frame rate of all current and prior videos. So to enjoy Casablanca or The Sound of Music, AI might be needed to fill in those missing frames our brains can't even register now.

got into another argument with another artist who is demanding all AI art be banned because it's 'stealing from other artists without their consent'. LIke seriously? Tell me you don't know a thing about machine learning without telling me you don't know anything about machine learning.

there's a real easy way to grasp that your beliefs are unfounded. I want you to go find one of my hand painted or drawn works that an AI has stolen in the volumes of content created by AI art generators. I'll even give you a better chance, find me an AI art generation programs work stolen from Norman Rockwell, HR Gieger, or Dr.Suess. Not one in their style that is an original, but stolen. Doesn't even have to be the whole image. Find me Hortons eyeball in an artwork callaged together from an AI generated work.

It's the same bullshit argument people made some years back about Pose theft in artwork. Where two people created art in different styles, themes and characters; but the poses were similar. Wouldn't surprise me if they believed in the healing power of crystals and that they cured their childs vaccine injury through essential oils.
