AGI, the Universe is doing experiments

Post by andmar74 »

I think one has to look at this stuff from a grander perspective.
The Universe is 13.8 billion years old, galaxies and stars formed very early and probably planets also. It's likely (we don't know for sure yet) that primitive life came to be on countless planets in the Universe when it was possible. On some of those planets, more advanced life evolved, and in a subset of those, civilizations would arise.

Now on Earth in 2022 we see there's a race for building AGI. It's a wild west with no rules or control. No one can say with certainty how risky it is to build AGI. Humanity is just going full steam ahead. In a similar manner to what happened during the 2. world war. The atomic bomb was built even if that would mean the end of humanity. I'm sitting here writing this, so humanity survived, but if you could do it over a 100 times, how many times would humanity perish?

Humanity is a pawn in a big game. The Universe is doing experiments on a huge number of planets, although there's no plan or mind behind it. It's just evolution. Humans are not capable of slowing down and assessing risk for hundreds of years. It's an impatient and curious species, which is not bothered by taking risks. That means AGI will be here soon, and shortly thereafter super-AGI.

Humanity has no protection. There's no guarantees for humanity's survival. From our perspective it would be huge if AI would kill us, but from the Universe's view, it's nothing. After that, experiments will be running along on countless other planets as if Earth never existed.
