Wtf, they know almost nothing about Monkeypox. How is that possible since it was detected in 1958 and been around in Africa. Oh..
The virus has mutated much more than expected. Great.

New York Gov. Hochul declares state disaster emergency over monkeypox
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state disaster emergency Friday night over the continued spread of monkeypox.

She said the emergency declaration would lead to swifter response and better vaccination distribution. It came a day after the New York State Commissioner of Health declared monkeypox an “imminent threat to public health.”

“I am declaring a State Disaster Emergency to strengthen our ongoing efforts to confront the monkeypox outbreak,” Hochul tweeted Friday.

Hochul indicated the state is an emerging center for the virus, which manifests in symptoms of rashes and lesions across the body, extremities and genitals.

New York has recorded the most cases of the virus nationwide — 1,345 — followed by California with 799, according to Centers of Disease Control and Prevention data last updated Friday.

“More than one in four monkeypox cases in this country are in New York State, and we need to utilize every tool in our arsenal as we respond,” Hochul wrote.

It's all so tiresome... can't wait to be out of this state. NYC is basically not even that much enjoyable due to the ridiculous high rent cost, crime issues, covid fluxations, and now this to top it all off. Good something is being done, but like with previous issues, it feels already too late.

And many more to come after. What we have now is just the prologue.
To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

Makes one wonder how those children got it :|
Gay men can be kids' uncles you know... doesn't mean anything malicious... any kind of contact can transmit the virus even if it is just giving someone a hug for example.

Thankyou for addressing the hostile insuation with a calm and polite response Xyls, if I had been the one to reply it would have neither been calm nor polite.

U.S. declares monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency
Source: CBS News
The Biden administration is declaring a public health emergency for the monkeypox outbreak in the United States, which now counts more infections from the virus than any other country in the world. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra announced the decision at a briefing with top public health officials Thursday.

"This public health emergency will allow us to explore additional strategies to get vaccines and treatments more quickly out to the impacted communities. And it will allow us to get more data from jurisdictions so we can effectively track and attack this outbreak," Robert Fenton, the newly appointed White House national monkeypox response coordinator, said at the briefing.

Over the last decade, nationwide emergency declarations like this have previously been made only for the COVID-19 pandemic, the opioid crisis, and the Zika virus outbreak in 2017. As it did for COVID-19, the move by Becerra to declare an emergency could unlock a broad swath of flexibilities in funding and regulations to respond to the spread of monkeypox.

A related determination would open the door for the Food and Drug Administration to grant emergency use authorizations that could ease access to treatments and vaccines for the monkeypox outbreak. Remember that fellow Ron DeSantis? The only guy to top Trump in the presidential preference poll among Republican voters?

Well, there is a reason that his lead over Trump in the polls should not be considered a good thing.

'They’re Going to Abuse Those Powers': DeSantis Attacks States for Declaring Emergencies Over Monkeypox Cases
by Meaghan Ellis
August 4, 2022

Introduction:
(Alternet) Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) recently criticized concerns surrounding the monkeypox outbreak, including slamming states that have declared the outbreak a medical emergency.

On Wednesday, August 3, DeSantis addressed the mounting concerns during a press conference as he insisted the media and politicians are using the outbreak to stoke fears.

“I am so sick of politicians, and we saw this with COVID, trying to sow fear into the population,” the Republican governor said. “We had people calling, mothers worried about whether their kids could catch it at schools.”

“We are not doing fear,” he added. “And we are not going to go out and try to rile people up and try to act like people can’t live their lives as they’ve been normally doing because of something.”

The Republican governor went on to share his opinion of states' emergency declarations. “You see some of these states declaring states of emergency. They’re going to abuse those emergency powers to restrict your freedom. I guarantee you that’s what will happen,” DeSantis said.
