Tommy Robinson trial - latest: EDL founder in court after he was arrested at London antisemitism march
1 hour ago

Tommy Robinson is due to appear for trial today after being arrested when asked to leave a rally against antisemitism in central London.

The English Defence League founder had been asked not to attend by organisers and was told he would not be welcome at the demonstration.

He was arrested by police near the Royal Courts of Justice and charged with failing to comply with a direction to leave an area in Westminster.

During his arrest, officers sprayed Robinson with synthetic pepper spray and handcuffed him.

The 41-year-old, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, had previously denied the charge of failing to comply with a dispersal order at Westminster Magistrates Court.

A Christian ministry urged the Supreme Court to criminalize homelessness
https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/a-chr ... he-supreme
Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard a case that centers around how cities should deal with homelessness. One of the most striking revelations, however, may have come from a Christian ministry that insisted the homeless need to be converted or punished.

The case involved the city of Grants Pass, Oregon, where there are more homeless people than available beds in shelters. City leaders have chosen to address the problem, not by building affordable housing or additional shelters but rather by fining people hundreds of dollars for using blankets, pillows, or cardboard boxes on the streets. When homeless people accrue multiple fines, they can be banned from public property… literally leaving them with nowhere to go. And if they remain in the city, they can be criminally prosecuted.

A previous legal case already declared those kinds of penalties unconstitutional, amounting to cruel and unusual punishment. So with the help of an attorney, a group of homeless people in Grants Pass filed a lawsuit against the city, saying local ordinances that punished them for basically existing were illegal. After all, they said, they weren’t choosing to live on the streets. There were no other options available to them.

Despite winning their case in lower courts, the city repeatedly appealed the decisions all the way up to the Supreme Court. The question in front of the justices is whether the city should be allowed to criminalize homelessness. It would be a disaster—and just another layer of cruelty—if SCOTUS rules in favor of Grants Pass.

In otherwords, moving the homelessness problem to another town or city in that state.

What is really needed is public housing and a government mandate to provide such. The small houses, government trailers and rental assistance is all needed. Keeping people off the street is very important. Of course the losertrians just want to throw people in jail and destroy their lives even more forcing them into more crime and working at the check out at the store 16 hours per day.

If they rule that Trump has absolute immunity, or anything near that, I'm wondering if Joe should assert those powers himself to deal with the Trump threat. The right can complain to SCOTUS if they don't like it.

If the court is idiotic enough to grant this power to the president I'd say yes. The right should be very careful!

He then should hand the presidency to harris and not have the election. This country needs a period of cooling off.

Trump says ‘a lot of people like it’ when he floats the idea of being a dictator

April 30, 2024 at 7:01 p.m.

People don’t seem to mind the idea of former President Donald Trump acting as a dictator, he told Time magazine in an interview that drew swift rebuke from the Biden-Harris campaign.

In a wide ranging interview given to the magazine — and shared by the 45th President Tuesday morning via his Truth Social media platform — Trump was asked to explain comments he made to Fox News host Sean Hannity, in which the former president said he would become a dictator on his first day in office.

“A lot of people like it,” Trump reportedly told Time.

As might be expected, President Joe Biden’s reelection team was quick to note the revelations contained in the interview and respond.

“Not since the Civil War have freedom and democracy been under assault at home as they are today – because of Donald Trump. Trump is willing to throw away the very idea of America to put himself in power,” Biden-Harris 2024 Spokesperson James Singer said in a statement.
