The world is run by a madman and it's driving us all nuts

The president is obviously out of his mind. So why don't investors seem to care?

By Ian Dunt

Last week I wrote about the political and media response to the war in Iran. This week I’m going to write about the market reaction. In both cases, we are witnessing the same process: the refusal of people to accept that the world is run by a madman.

People will fight this realisation with every inch of their being, even when it concerns the investment of their own money. It is too scary a thing to be acknowledged, because it makes your personal safety and the overall stability of society feel flimsy and fragile, something that can crumble in a harsh wind.

But the truth is, there is no strategy to what the White House does. There is no calculation. There is no sense of logic or application. It is a fucking madhouse.

One of the core psychological functions of conspiracy theories is that they give people a false sense of order. Instead of the true chaos of the world - chance events, economic repercussions, second-order consequences, competing powers, unpredictable alliances - the conspiracy theory provides them with a narrative in which an evil cabal is responsible for all the bad things that happen. That simplification is satisfying for people with limited perspective or jangled nerves.

We are now seeing this thought process expand from the kooky and the foolish to society at large. People are afraid of the chaos of the world, now more than ever. But instead of embracing a conspiracy theory, they are settling for something more prosaic: the projection of reason onto Donald Trump.

‘Damning’ New Evidence Suggests Trump Motive for Stealing Classified Documents: To Advance Business Interests
By Julia Conley
March 25, 2026

Introduction:
(Common Dreams) Democrats on the US House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday demanded that President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice “stop the cover-up” of former special counsel Jack Smith’s full investigation into Trump’s retention of classified documents following his first term, after new material sent to the panel revealed that some documents were stolen to advance the president’s business interests.

Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) wrote to Attorney General Pam Bondi about “cherry-picked documents” related to Smith’s investigations into Trump’s taking of classified documents, which he stored at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey.

The DOJ has regularly produced documents for the Judiciary Committee as Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has sought to portray Smith as having a partisan vendetta against the president, said Raskin. Smith led investigations into Trump’s hoarding of classified documents and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results during the Biden administration. Last month US District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, permanently blocked the release of Smith’s final report on the documents case.

Raskin wrote Wednesday that even as Jordan has embarked on a “vindictive campaign” against Smith and has sought a narrow selection of material from the DOJ, Bondi had “quite amazingly missed the fact that some of the documents you provided include damning evidence about your boss’s conduct and may well violate the gag order your DOJ and Donald Trump demanded from Judge Aileen Cannon.”

Those documents include a January 13, 2023 memorandum from prosecutors who said the FBI had determined Trump retained documents that “would be pertinent to certain business interests.” The documents “established a motive for retaining them” that related to Trump’s businesses.

James Carville makes shocking prediction that Trump’s presidency could end early if Democrats sweep the midterms

Carville said if the Democrats take control of the House and Senate, they will launch investigations into Trump, which will eventually lead to the president’s resignation

Democratic strategist James Carville predicts that Donald Trump’s presidency could end early if the Democrats sweep the midterm elections.

In an expletive-laden video on the Politicon YouTube channel posted earlier this week, Carville said if the Democrats take control of the House of Representatives and the Senate, they will launch investigations into Trump and his family, which will eventually lead to the president’s resignation.

“The Democrats are going to investigate you to no end,” Carville said. “Then they’re going to go after your stupid, jacka** kids and their spouses.”

Carville did not explain for which potential offenses Trump and his family may be investigated. But he did warn that the president could commit war crimes in the conflict against Iran as it continues.

“When it comes to the stuff you’re doing in Iran, I got to tell you, you’re getting really, really, really, close to war crimes here. You’re probably gonna cross the line,” Carville said.

CNN Data Guru Warns Trump Support Crashing: 'Absolute Collapse'

CNN’s chief data analyst is sounding the alarm on President Donald Trump’s abysmal poll numbers, saying they amount to an “absolute collapse” among key supporters.

CNN’s Harry Enten said Trump, pushing 80, has watched his approval rating tank in recent months, with his disapproval hitting a record 62 percent as Republican-leaning Independents turn on him.

“We are talking about a very important block [of voters] for the president of the United States—that is Republican-leaning Independents. That is what’s going on," Enten said Monday.

At this point in Trump’s first term, nearly three-quarters of Republican-leaning Independents supported him. Now, support has slipped to just half.
