Eugene Vindman, key figure at Trump's first impeachment, will win Dem primary for Virginia open seat, CNN projects

Source: CNN
Eugene Vindman, a retired Army colonel and key figure in Donald Trump’s first impeachment, will win the Democratic primary for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, CNN projects. Vindman is looking to succeed retiring Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger in what is expected to be a competitive race this fall with the House GOP’s narrow majority on the line.

Vindman and his twin brother, retired Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, are best known for their role in the impeachment after both raised concerns about a 2019 phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In the call, Trump allegedly asked for an investigation into Hunter Biden, the son of then-presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Alexander Vindman was a star witness during the 2020 impeachment hearing, and the twins – who both worked for the National Security Council – became heroes to Democratic activists opposed to the former president.

Vindman’s role in Trump’s impeachment likely made a difference in his campaign. While most of his primary opponents were current and former elected officials, the first-time candidate raised $5 million through May 29, federal records show. That haul was about four times as much as the combined total of the other six Democrats in the race.

Biden, Clintons raise over $8 million at fundraiser in critical Virginia

Source: Reuters

June 18, 2024 8:27 PM EDT Updated 6 hours ago

MCCLEAN, Virginia, June 18 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden's re-election effort raised $8.1 million at a fundraiser on Tuesday in Virginia, where Biden, joined by former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, warned against a second presidential term from Republican rival Donald Trump.

Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe hosted the event at his home in McClean, Virginia. Recent polls have shown Biden and Trump virtually tied in the state ahead of November's election.

Biden and the Clintons on Tuesday sought to contrast the incumbent president and former President Trump, whom Hillary Clinton called a "clear and present danger to our country and the world." She also said that Biden's priorities for a second term include bolstering reproductive rights and lowering costs for Americans.

In his remarks, Biden referred to Trump's recent criminal convictions, after a New York jury found him guilty of falsifying documents to cover up a payment to silence a porn star ahead of the 2016 election. "It's clear (Trump is) worried about preserving his freedom," Biden said. Democracy is on the ballot this year," he added.

Donald Trump slammed President Joe Biden’s plans to cancel student loan debt as “vile” and suggested that the program will be “rebuked” if he is elected, The Independent reports.

He later blamed student loan relief for a climbing federal budget deficit.

Who else thinks that we won't have to wait that long because of leaks to the press?

CBS/YouGov: Trump +1
Trump 50%

Lets look on the bright side of the Trump reelection.
Trump lost the house during his first term in 2018 and want on to become quite unpopular! His policies piss people off. Biden isn't popular either and neither is harris. So consider that. If we can regain the house this year and possibly hold or keep the senate 50%/50% Trump will get very little through long term but will piss people off and boost the poll numbers of the democratic party. We'll likely regain the senate in 2026 even if we lose it and certainly gain more seats in the house in 2026 and 2028. Here is what I am afraid of if we reelect Biden. Lets say Biden is elected later this year but we lose the senate. WEll, biden isn't going to get much through and we will probably relose the house in 2026 out of unpopularity and hatred of Biden or Harris. 2028 will almost certainly won't be some scum bag like trump running on the republican ticket and the voters will probably elect this person with a real mandate. Imagine Nickie halley or Tim scot winning the white house with a 55-56 seat republican senate, 240+ republican house. This ticket might abolish the safety net, defund education and do long term damage on our society.

Long term it might be better that Trump wins later this year and with that we gain the house and then the senate in 2026...I truly believe that we'll walk back into the white house in 2028 after 4 years of trump.
