And yet 30+ % of your country wants to double down and vote Reform.

40% now, according to latest polls.

And Farage was the chief architect of Brexit, which is costing us tens of billions in lost economic output. He also strongly supported Liz Truss's policies which crashed our economy in 2022.

As I've said before – I'm going to try and enjoy these next four years, before the UK inevitably falls to right-wing populism and further decline. I expect we'll see the final nail driven into the coffin of the NHS, and other public services gutted, massive tax cuts for the rich, and Net Zero abandoned.

Green party reaches 100,000 members for first time after Polanski becomes leader

Sun 12 Oct 2025 22.30 BST

The Greens in England and Wales have more than 100,000 members for the first time, the party has announced, a near-50% rise since Zack Polanski took over as leader last month.

It puts them on a potential course to overtake the Conservatives and comes little more than a week after the Greens announced they had moved past the Liberal Democrats in membership numbers, getting to 83,500.

If the same momentum continues, party officials say, they could be on course to become bigger than the Conservatives. Tory party membership figures are not made public, but recent reports say the total is slightly above 120,000.

Such numbers do not necessarily translate into electoral success, with Labour having had a peak of more than 500,000 members under Jeremy Corbyn, who lost two general elections. And while one recent poll put the Greens at 15%, most such surveys have put the party nearer to 11% or 12%, not much changed since Polanski took charge.

But the influx of members does point to Polanski’s apparent ability to galvanise attention and enthusiasm for a party that has often struggled to get its message across, with a mass of interviews, social media videos and TV appearances.

Sadiq Khan calls on Reeves to bring ‘authentic’ Labour budget that boosts green investment

Sun 2 Nov 2025 19.56 GMT

Keir Starmer’s government has shown a lack of confidence that it has the answers to the country’s problems, the mayor of London has said, as he called on the chancellor to back green investment in this month’s budget.

Speaking on the eve of a summit of world mayors in Rio de Janeiro, Sadiq Khan said the Treasury should be more supportive of the energy secretary, Ed Miliband, in his pursuit of the government’s target of an 81% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.

The public would reward the government for facing down those who claim net zero policies are adding to the cost of living, the London mayor said, as he argued that cabinet ministers should be true to their beliefs.

“I can’t understand how we’ve lost the art and ability to explain to people what we’re doing,” he added.

Khan, who is co-chairing the C40 World Mayors Summit with the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, said: “[The public] can smell somebody who’s inauthentic. And I think you should be authentic. People respect somebody if you’re authentic.”

Labour seem determined to cosplay the Tories/Reform at every available opportunity, so I won't be the least bit surprised if this awful, stupid decision goes ahead.

Why are we so incapable of long-term thinking? Not just in the UK but the West generally.

Cutting home insulation funding will imperil UK’s climate goals, Reeves told

Sat 8 Nov 2025 06.01 GMT

Rachel Reeves has been told that cutting funding for home insulation at the budget would risk the UK’s climate goals and hurt low-income households in a joint intervention by energy firms, fuel poverty charities and environmental groups.

In a letter to the chancellor, more than 60 groups and companies urged Reeves not to take such a damaging “short-term fix” to slash funding for more energy-efficient homes to pay for a reduction in energy bills.

The Guardian revealed this week that Reeves is finalising a multibillion-pound energy support package that is likely to cut green levies paying for energy efficiency as she looks to save as much as £170 from the average bill.

[...]

James Dyson, a senior researcher at E3G, a non-profit that helped coordinate the letter, said the last time the ECO scheme was cut, 10,000 people lost their jobs and millions of families were “left in draughty homes paying astronomical energy bills” as a result.

“Cutting ECO could collapse the entire insulation industry, putting thousands of working people out of work in areas of the country that need good, skilled jobs and removing one of the best methods of permanently reducing energy bills for low-income families. It would also rob us of a key tool for lowering carbon emissions in this critical decade for climate action,” he added.

Exactly as I predicted they would do. Why do Labour even bother having manifestos/pledges when they literally always abandon them once in power and work 100% in service of lobbyists?

This, just three years after the UK had its first 40°C summer, and we're heading for a major drought crisis within the next 5-10 years.

F*ck Labour!

Get ready to fight: Armed forces chief issues stark warning as Russian threat grows

Tuesday 16 December 2025 00:22, UK

There is a growing risk that Russia could attack the UK, and the nation's "sons and daughters" need to be ready to fight, the head of Britain's armed forces has said.

In an extraordinarily blunt intervention, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton warned that Russia's military strength is increasing and is something to fear, with Russian troops now battle-hardened after spending the past nearly four years waging a full-scale war in Ukraine.

He said the UK's armed forces would always be the first line of defence alongside the rest of the NATO alliance, but the whole of society must also play a part in rebuilding resilience.

The chief of the defence staff said it is important to be honest with "families and households" across the UK about what it means to be prepared for "an array of real, physical threats".

Serving up a sombre reality check, Air Chief Marshal Knighton said he agreed with his French counterpart, General Fabien Mandon, who said last month that France must be ready for the possibility of losing its children in a potential war with Russia.
