DeSantis to make Florida first state to end all vaccine mandates for schools
Florida is set to end all state vaccine mandates, state Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced at a news conference Wednesday.

For decades, the state has required numerous vaccines for kids attending school, including shots that protect against Measles-mumps-rubella, polio, chickenpox and Hepatitis B.

But Ladapo on Wednesday compared these mandates to “slavery,” and promised that they all will soon end. He did not immediately provide specifics.

Vaccines have saved at least 154 million lives in the last 50 years, according to the World Health Organization. The vast majority of the lives saved were infants.

Trump to sign executive order renaming Pentagon the Department of War
President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order on Friday that will change the name of the Defense Department to the Department of War, a White House official told CNN.

It’s a move that the president has previewed in recent days, including in the Oval Office last week when he told reporters his administration was going to “change the name.”

“We call it the Department of Defense, but between us, I think we’re gonna change the name,” the president told reporters on August 25.

“We won the World War 1, World War 2 - it was called the Department of War, and to me, that’s really what it is. Defense is a part of that, but I have a feeling we’re gonna be changing.”

Trump Threatens to Send Troops to City He Says He Saw Being Destroyed 'Last Night'-- But it Wasn't

Source: MEDIAite

Sep 6th, 2025, 1:23 pm

President Donald Trump said he has earmarked Portland, Oregon as the next city for National Guard deployment after watching video of its “destruction” on television. Except the video the president apparently saw was not from “last night” as he claimed, but from the George Floyd protests of 2020.

During an executive order signing at the Oval Office on Friday, at which Trump renamed the Department of Defense as the “Department of War,” a reporter asked if the president had decided which city he wanted to “go into next.” Trump previously deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C. as part of a crime crackdown effort.

“Yeah, I have,” Trump answered. “I have. I’m not going to say it now, but, yeah, I have. We’re going to go into another place and straighten it out.”

Trump then went on to identify Portland, Oregon as the city the had in mind.

Supreme Court Embraces Racial Profiling By ICE In LA
In a decision that rubber-stamps racial profiling by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Los Angeles — and could accelerate deportations across America — the Supreme Court on Monday ruled that federal agents do not need reasonable suspicion to target someone for immigration detention, leaving the door open for any rationale immigration agents choose to use, including racial profiling.

The ruling comes after the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to block an order from a lower court that prohibited agents from using four racially loaded categories to justify arrests: apparent ethnicity, language spoken or accent, presence at a location where immigrants were believed to gather, or working in a particular kind of job. The order had snaked through the high court’s emergency, or “shadow,” docket since Aug. 7.

The decision overturns an order by U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong that had temporarily halted ICE agents in Los Angeles from making arrests or stops without reasonable suspicion. U.S. citizens and immigrants had been detained under the Trump administration’s directive to the Department of Homeland Security, often by masked and sometimes armed men. Frimpong found those raids were done illegally and, specifically, in violation of the Fourth Amendment.

DHS announces 'Midway Blitz' ICE operation in Chicago

Source: The Hill
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched its latest immigration crackdown on Monday, targeting Chicago.
(snip)

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents already have been deployed to Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and also rolled out operations in Boston over the weekend as part of President Trump’s sweeping anti-illegal immigration agenda, prompting protests across the country this summer.

The latest effort marks an anticipated ramp-up of the initiatives.

Pritzker over the weekend shared a “Know Your Rights” pamphlet in multiple languages, including that ICE officers can be asked to present a warrant. He also encouraged those witnessing arrests to film them and share them with media organizations.

Supreme Court to quickly consider if Trump has power to impose sweeping tariffs
The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted an unusually quick hearing on whether Trump has the power to impose sweeping tariffs under federal law.

The justices will hear arguments in November, lightning fast by the typical standards of the nation’s highest court.

The small businesses and states that challenged the tariffs in court also agreed to the accelerated timetable. They say Trump illegally used emergency powers to set import taxes on goods from nearly every country in the world, nearly driving their businesses to bankruptcy.

Senate Republicans trigger 'nuclear option,' changing rules to speed up Trump nominees

Source: NBC News

Sep. 11, 2025, 5:11 PM EDT

WASHINGTON — Republicans triggered the "nuclear option" to change the rules of the Senate on a party-line basis Thursday, a move that will allow them to speed up confirmation of President Donald Trump's nominees for key executive branch positions.

The vote was 53-45 to establish a new rule that allows the Senate to confirm an unlimited number of nominees en bloc, rather than process each one individually.

The rule applies to executive branch nominees subject to two hours of Senate debate, including subcabinet picks and ambassadors. It will not affect judicial nominations. Republicans say they'll allow their own senators to object to individual nominees in any given block, but the rule will strip away the power of the minority party to do the same thing.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., initiated the process by bringing up a package of 48 Trump nominees, which under longstanding rules has been subject to the 60-vote threshold. The vote to advance them failed due to Democratic opposition. Then, Thune sought to reconsider and Republicans subsequently voted to overrule the chair, setting a new precedent and establishing the new rule.

House passes GOP bill to avert a shutdown, but Senate looks likely to reject it

Source: NBC news
WASHINGTON — The Republican-controlled House on Friday passed a stopgap bill to fund the government until just before Thanksgiving, daring Democrats in the Senate to reject the measure and risk a shutdown at the end of this month.

The vote was 217-212, with one Democrat, Rep. Jared Golden of Maine, joining Republicans in voting yes. Two Republicans — conservative Reps. Tim Burchett of Tennessee and Victoria Spartz of Indiana — and all other Democrats voted against the bill.
