https://www.rawstory.com/trump-snap-2674263865/Trump announced that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits would not be disbursed until the government shutdown ends after attorneys for his administration promised a federal judge that at least half of the payments would be sent out in November.
"SNAP BENEFITS, which increased by Billions and Billions of Dollars (MANY FOLD!) during Crooked Joe Biden's disastrous term in office (Due to the fact that they were haphazardly 'handed' to anyone for the asking, as opposed to just those in need, which is the purpose of SNAP!), will be given only when the Radical Left Democrats open up government, which they can easily do, and not before! Thank you for your attention to this matter," the president announced Tuesday in a post on Truth Social.
On Friday, Trump insisted that "it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding, just like I did with Military and Law Enforcement Pay" after multiple courts ordered his administration to use contingency funds to pay SNAP benefits.

'There's nothing that could move me': 7 GOP senators give Trump a 'hard no' on new demand

President Donald Trump's initial response to Republicans' lopsided losses in multiple elections on Tuesday night was to call on Republicans to end a longstanding practice in the U.S. Senate in order to ram through his policies with minimal opposition. But multiple senators are already pouring cold water on the proposal.
In a series of Truth Social posts Tuesday night, Trump demanded that Senate Republicans "TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER" and make it possible for the GOP to pass restrictions on voting, ban mail-in ballots and impose a national voter ID law, among other policies. As long as the filibuster remains in place, those policies would need 60 votes in the Senate in order to clear the upper chamber of Congress (Republicans currently have just 53 seats).
However, Semafor correspondent Burgess Everett reported Wednesday that scrapping the filibuster isn't likely anytime soon, according to multiple Republican senators. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), John Neely Kennedy (R-La.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) all communicated to Everett that the idea was a non-starter. "There’s nothing that could move me," Tillis said.
Additionally, Bloomberg congressional reporter Steve Dennis tweeted that Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who was the top Senate Republican for more than a decade, stopped him in a Capitol hallway and said of abolishing the filibuster: "We're not going to do that."

A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Trump administration to pay full SNAP benefits for November by Friday, rejecting the administration’s plan to partially fund that food stamp program for 42 million Americans during the U.S. government shutdown.
“People have gone without for too long,” Judge Jack McConnell said during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Rhode Island as he issued the order requiring the administration to tap funding sources it ruled as being out of bounds earlier this week.
“The evidence shows that people will go hungry, food pantries will be overburdened, and needless suffering will occur” if SNAP is not fully funded, McConnell said. “That’s what irreparable harm here means. Last weekend, SNAP benefits lapsed for the first time in our nation’s history,” the judge said. “This is a problem that could have and should have been avoided.”
The order came after plaintiffs in the case urged him to reject the administration’s proposed plan for partial benefits. The Trump administration last week had said it would not use a congressionally authorized contingency fund containing $4.65 billion to fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in November. The total cost of full SNAP benefits for the month is around $8 billion.

Senate advances deal to reopen government after centrist Democrats strike major deal to end shutdown
Quote
Quote
https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/09/politics ... eal-senateA critical bloc of eight Senate Democratic centrists on Sunday helped advance a funding deal to reopen the government in exchange for a future vote on extending enhanced Affordable Care subsidies, putting Congress on a path to end the longest shutdown in US history within days.
That deal would include a new stopgap measure to extend government funding until January and be tied to a larger package to fully fund several key agencies. It includes no guarantee from Republicans to extend the health care subsidies that have been at the heart of the funding fight.
What Democrats did secure is a future vote on the matter. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said on the chamber floor Sunday that he will hold a vote on a measure to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits by the middle of next month. Democrats involved in the talks believe that will give enough time for House and Senate GOP leaders to negotiate a true compromise in the coming weeks, though it would be a major lift to get through a Republican-controlled Congress.

Congress sends funding package to reopen the federal government to Trump for his signature

https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/12/politics ... house-voteBoth chambers of Congress have now voted to end the longest-ever federal shutdown, sending a funding bill to reopen the government to President Donald Trump for his signature.
The House voted Wednesday night to give final approval to a short-term bill to reopen the government after a record 43 days, ending a six-week bitter stalemate over the fate of an Obamacare program loathed by Republicans.
Back in Washington for the first time since mid-September, nearly every Republican, along with a handful of Democrats, voted for the bill, which sets up a new funding cliff in Congress on January 30, but some critical programs ensnared in the recent shutdown will be immune from future political fights as the bill provides funding for a few key agencies through the remainder of fiscal year 2026. The final vote was 222 to 209.
The Democrats who voted in favor were: Reps. Jared Golden, Adam Gray, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Henry Cuellar, Tom Suozzi and Don Davis. GOP Reps. Thomas Massie voted and Greg Steube against the bill [sic].

https://gizmodo.com/doge-laid-off-the-h ... 2000689563Months after Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency stripped the Internal Revenue Service for parts and snagged as much taxpayer data as they could get their hands on, the agency is getting some support—just not from actual people. According to a report from Axios, the IRS is deploying AI agents for the first time across a number of the agency’s divisions. So get ready for your tax season questions to get answered by a bot.
Per the report, the IRS has tapped Salesforce to provide the AI support via its Agentforce platform. The AI agents will be jumping in to provide support in the Office of Chief Counsel, Taxpayer Advocate Services, and the Office of Appeals.

Trump administration orders 500 more National Guard troops to DC after shooting of soldiers
https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/two ... 06761.htmlWASHINGTON (AP) — Two West Virginia National Guard members who deployed to the nation’s capital were shot Wednesday just blocks from the White House in a brazen act of violence.
FBI Director Kash Patel and Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said the Guard members were hospitalized in critical condition. Bowser said they were victims of a ”targeted shooting.”
West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey initially said the troops had died, but later walked back the statement to say his office was “receiving conflicting reports" about their condition. The governor’s office did not immediately respond to questions about the attack and the condition of the troops.
A suspect who was in custody also was shot and had wounds that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to a law enforcement official who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to escalate his crackdown on immigration - pledging to "permanently pause migration" to the US from all "third world countries" as he hit out against his country's "refugee burden".
Trump's social media post came after he announced that a US National Guard member had died after a shooting in Washington DC - for which an Afghan national has been blamed.
He did not give further details or name which countries might be affected. Such a plan could face legal challenges and has already prompted pushback from UN agencies.
