Why Election Day Has Irreversibly Changed
by Ivana Saric
October 19, 2024

Introduction:
( Axios ) Although Election Day is weeks away, thousands of Americans nationwide have already cast their votes. Vote counting delays due to mail-in or absentee voting are also expected to drag out the declaration of winners in key swing states.

Why it matters: The popularity and prevalence of early voting has rendered Election Day an outdated concept — for much of the country, the 2024 race countdown would be better described as election month.

• Early voting in person or by mail has exploded over the past 24 years. According to the Center for Election Innovation and Research, in the year 2000, only 24 states offered citizens the ability to vote before Election Day. In 2024, 47 states do so.

• Early in-person voting is underway in nearly two dozen states, per USA Today. More than two dozen others will begin casting ballots over the next two weeks.

The big picture: More than half of voters plan to vote early in the election, according to a new NBC News poll released this week.

I watched the Texas Senate debate between Colin Allred (Dem) and Ted Cruz (GOP).

Allred came across as weak, and inauthentic, with many lines that seemed to be rehearsed.

Cruz is an odious man, but he seemed to dominate this debate. He exposed Allred's inconsistent voting record showing he's a flip-flopper. I think it's safe to say that Cruz will be re-elected as Senator for Texas.

Obama's outreach to young Black men: Morning Rundown

Oct. 21, 2024, 12:06 PM GMT+1

Will Obama’s outreach to young Black men help Harris?Former President Barack Obama has been on the campaign trail for Kamala Harris, aiming to shore up her support among young Black men.

It’s not certain, though, that his target audience is listening.

Democrats have been unnerved by recent polls that show Harris’ numbers sagging among Black voters, particularly young men. One of Obama’s tasks leading up to Election Day is to persuade Black men that voting for Donald Trump would be a grievous mistake.

A younger generation of Black Americans may have seen little of Obama, possessing only a dim recollection of a presidency that ended nearly eight years ago. “He is resonating with a different culture,” said one University of Arizona student who hasn’t yet decided how he’ll vote. “They’re going to need a young guy to come and stand up who is Black. He’s not the young guy.”

In the remaining days before the election, the former president will be doing interviews with podcasters and various internet personalities who command a large Black following, an Obama aide said.

Ukraine May Cost Trump the Election

I'm just a little disappointed in the failure of Americans to endorse more aid to Ukraine. I hope people will come around eventually, though.
