Trump supporters post names and addresses of Georgia grand jurors online
Aug. 16, 2023, 8:08 PM BST
The purported names and addresses of members of the grand jury that indicted Donald Trump and 18 of his co-defendants on state racketeering charges this week have been posted on a fringe website that often features violent rhetoric, NBC News has learned.
NBC News is choosing not to name the website featuring the addresses to avoid further spreading the information.
The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment. District Attorney Fani Willis faced racist threats ahead of the return of the indictment, and additional security measures were put in place, with some employees being allowed to work from home.
The grand jurors' purported addresses were spotted by Advance Democracy, a nonpartisan research group founded by Daniel J. Jones, a former FBI investigator and staffer for the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee.
“It’s becoming all too commonplace to see everyday citizens performing necessary functions for our democracy being targeted with violent threats by Trump-supporting extremists," Jones said. "The lack of political leadership on the right to denounce these threats — which serve to inspire real-world political violence — is shameful.”

Trump surrender in Georgia case expected next week, source says
Source: CNN Politics
Washington CNN — Negotiations between Donald Trump’s lawyers and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ office over the details of his surrender are expected to continue into next week, a source with knowledge of the talks tells CNN.
This means the former president’s surrender is expected next week – not Thursday or Friday – before the August 25 deadline. CNN previously reported on Wednesday that talks were underway between Trump’s team and Willis’ prosecutors.
The Fulton County sheriff has said that all 19 defendants in the case, including Trump, are expected to surrender at the Fulton County jail, as is common procedure. The former president’s surrender and arraignment will look different in Georgia than in his previous three criminal cases.
Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat has previously suggested he wants to treat these defendants the same as any other defendant would be treated, which means they would have mugshots taken and be fingerprinted. However, the authorities in Fulton County will need to coordinate with the Secret Service and Trump’s attorneys about the logistics of the former president’s surrender.

Trump team seeks to delay federal election interference trial until 2026

Read more: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald ... rcna100062WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump, the front-runner in polls for the 2024 Republican nomination, is seeking to delay his federal trial on charges related to his efforts to stop the peaceful transfer of power and retain the White House following his 2020 election loss. In a court filing Thursday, Trump's attorneys recommended starting the trial in April 2026, more than two years after prosecutors are seeking to get the trial underway.
“This is an unprecedented case in American history. The incumbent administration has targeted its primary political opponent—and leading candidate in the upcoming presidential election—with criminal prosecution," Trump's attorneys wrote. "The administration has devoted tens of millions of dollars to this effort, creating a special counsel’s office with dozens of employees, many of whom are apparently assigned full-time to this case and this case alone."
"The government’s objective is clear: to deny President Trump and his counsel a fair ability to prepare for trial. The Court should deny the government’s request,” they added. The election interference case brought against Trump in the nation's capital by special counsel Jack Smith is one of four criminal cases Trump is now facing, and one of two brought at the federal level by Justice Department prosecutors.
In a packed second-floor courtroom just a few hundred feet from the U.S. Capitol, Trump pleaded not guilty earlier this month to four charges in the case: conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction; and conspiracy against the right to vote and to have one’s vote counted. U.S. District Judge Tonya Chutkan — who warned Trump that he is a "criminal defendant" who has "restrictions like every other defendant" — had asked each side to propose trial dates.
Re: Donald Trump news and discussions
I understand that this is being presented as part of a legal argument. In that sense, past political beliefs are irrelevant. Still, there is going to be a definite and unavoidable political aspect to these sorts of pleadings. Addressing the political side, did Trump and his supporters ever care one wit about the huge imbalance in the criminal justice system between the resources of the government and low-income criminal defendants?weatheriscool wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 7:31 pm Trump team seeks to delay federal election interference trial until 2026

Now, suddenly, they see that as a problem. Undoubtedly, they will not see that as a problem for other defendants in the future that do not belong to their "in" group. Even as those defendants may have far fewer financial resources to draw upon for their defense.
They seem to want the courts to treat Trump in a special manner. Trump and his supporters never supported legislative efforts to address what they now seem to consider to be problems in the law. I suppose they would argue that it is not the law to which they object, but to how the law is being interpreted in their case. Trump has been impeached twice* and lost several civil lawsuits. Three different prosecutors have now come forth with indictments covering various different aspects of Trump's behavior. That should say a lot about Trump's understanding of the law.
*The successful defense offered in his impeachment trials rested on the argument that the voters should be allowed to decide his fate, or that the matters at hand could be handled through the criminal process. So, those defenses never really argued that a reading of the law would result in a conclusion that Trump was innocent.
Don't mourn, organize.

U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan issued an order Friday denying the former president's motion to stay the case pending an appeal of a previous ruling, saying he was not required to do so and raising concerns about the ages of both the plaintiff and the defendant in the trial, reported CNN.
“Both parties are of advanced age, and a stay of this case pending resolution of Mr. Trump’s appeal would threaten delaying any compensation to which Ms. Carroll might be entitled by at least several months, if not a year or more,” Kaplan wrote.
Trump is 77 years old, while Carroll is 79, and the judge himself is in his late 70s.

“While there is a public interest in immunizing presidents for actions properly taken within the scope of their duties, there is a public interest also in ensuring that even presidents will be held accountable for actions that – as this Court already has determined in this case – do not come within that scope,” Kaplan wrote.........................

Assuming that Trump is innocent, vindicating him before the election would boost his image. Right? RIGHT?weatheriscool wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 7:31 pm Trump team seeks to delay federal election interference trial until 2026

Trump confirms he will skip the first GOP debate — and maybe future ones, as well
Source: NBC News
Source: NBC News
Donald Trump confirmed Sunday that he will skip the first Republican presidential primary debate Wednesday — and indicated he may not attend future ones, either.
The former president wrote on his Truth Social media platform that polling shows him leading in the Republican primary field by such a wide margin that he doesn't need to stand alongside his rivals on the debate stage.
“The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had,” Trump wrote. “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!”
A source familiar with Trump’s thinking said the decision applies to only the first two debates, which are affiliated with Fox News and Fox Business. The source declined to rule out the possibility that Trump may change his mind.
Co-moderators Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier of Fox News will host the first Republican presidential primary debate Wednesday in Wisconsin. Fox Business will host the second debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute in Simi Valley, California, in late September.
NBC News previously reported that Trump had made up his mind to forgo the first debate with his 2024 Republican rivals and was instead looking to schedule a sit-down interview during that time with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Nine candidates — including Trump — have qualified for Wednesday's debate stage, according to an NBC News analysis of the Republican National Committee's requirements to get onto the stage.

Finally, there he is. First ever mugshot of a former US President.

To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.
