Ron DeSantis Is a Case Study in the Threat of Fascism in the US
https://truthout.org/articles/ron-desan ... in-the-us/
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has pursued white supremacist policies with deep roots in the Jim Crow era.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is ascendant in U.S. politics, with new polling indicating that Donald Trump would now lose to DeSantis if Republican voters were given a choice today about who to vote for in a presidential primary for 2024. But what mainstream media are too often failing to recognize is how DeSantis’s political actions — from his shameful treatment of migrants to his use of election police to terrorize voters — are fueling the emergence of fascist politics in the United States.

Too often issues are dealt with in the mainstream press in an utterly isolated fashion, removed from both a historical context and a number of related issues. For instance, many of the policies enacted by GOP legislators, such as the banning of books, resonate with policies that were used in Nazi Germany and other totalitarian countries in the 1930s and 1970s.

Lauren Boebert Accused of 'Seducing' Married Man With 'Money and Gifts' Leading to Restraining Order
U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert is accused of "seducing" a married man with "money and gifts," leading to animosity between the women in addition to restraining order drama.

"She made it all about her. She became enmeshed in our lives," Colorado housewife Jennifer Martinez said in an explosive new interview, shedding light on the private feud that transpired after the two met while working together.

RadarOnline.com has learned that Martinez's estranged husband, Matt Archambault, first crossed paths with Boebert in 2013 when he took a job as the chef at her restaurant, Shooters Grill, in Rifle, Colorado.

She said they hit it off immediately, and Boebert was allegedly quick to shower him with gifts. "Not long after, she called me up and said, 'Do you mind if I buy him this $700 golf club for his birthday? I can say it's from you.'"

"And I was like, 'No, it's okay we've already gotten him a birthday gift,'" Martinez told Daily Mail, noting the fact she had to call should've been a hint that it was "not appropriate."

This is more like interpersonal drama with little relation to the ills of conservatism

Republicans Declare Banning Universal Free School Meals As 2024 Priority
https://newrepublic.com/post/173668/rep ... 4-priority

States across the country are moving to provide universal free school meals to all our children. Meanwhile, Republicans are trying to stop them from doing just that.

The Republican Study Committee (of which some three quarters of House Republicans are members of) on Wednesday released its desired 2024 budget, in which the party boldly declares its priority to eliminate the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) from the School Lunch Program. Why? Because “CEP allows certain schools to provide free school lunches regardless of the individual eligibility of each student.”

The horror.

Of note is that the CEP is not even something every school participates in; it is a meal service program reserved for qualifying schools and districts in low-income areas. The program enables schools that predominantly serve children from low-income backgrounds to offer all students free breakfast and lunch, instead of means testing them and having to manage collecting applications on an individual basis. As with many universal-oriented programs, it both is more practically efficient, and as a bonus, lifts all boats. This is what Republicans are looking to eliminate.

It’s the kind of provision that many would want every school to participate in. Why not guarantee all our children are well-fed as they learn to think and learn about our world, and their place in it, after all?
