Gov Ron DeSantis’ team has been accused of threatening to call the police on supporters of former President Donald Trump who were demonstrating outside of a book signing event at a Leesburg, Florida mall on Tuesday afternoon.

A small group of Trump supporters gathered in the mall parking lot with Trump signs and flags, but were told to disperse in a video recorded and posted to Twitter by far right activist Lara Loomer.

“They told me to say anybody wearing Trump has to go right now,” a uniformed security officer is heard saying in the video. Later in the recording, the officer says he is going to call the Leesburg Police Department.

Mr DeSantis was at the event to promote his new book, which is entitled The Courage to Be Free. The Florida governor is widely expected to announce a run for president in the coming months, which would pit him against Mr Trump in the contest for the Republican nomination.

change abortion laws

@JessicaValenti
Republicans in Mississippi are pushing legislation that would ban voters from using ballot measures to change abortion laws.

They know *exactly* how Americans feel about abortion and don't want voters to have a say
Mississippi Could Renew Initiatives but Ban Them on Abortion

Tennessee Lawmaker looks to add firing squad to execution bill - and lynching
https://www.kake.com/story/48477746/law ... ution-bill
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WSMV) -- A Tennessee lawmaker is working to add death by firing squad as a method of execution in the state.

HB1245 was originally introduced by Rep. Dennis Powers as a death-by-electrocution bill. Now, the bill is being amended to offer inmates on death row a different execution method.

During a committee meeting this week, several of the state’s representatives said they were in support of the idea and believed it to be the most humane way to be executed.

Rep. Paul Sherrell agreed with the bill and took the conversation a step further by suggesting lynching as another possible execution method.

“I think it’s a very good idea. And I was just wondering, could I put an amendment on that, that would include hanging by a tree also,” Rep. Sherrell said during the meeting on Tuesday.

Florida bill would require bloggers who write about governor to register with the state
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Sen. Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) wants bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature to register with the state or face fines.

Brodeur’s proposal, Senate Bill 1316: Information Dissemination, would require any blogger writing about government officials to register with the Florida Office of Legislative Services or the Commission on Ethics.

In the bill, Brodeur wrote that those who write “an article, a story, or a series of stories,” about “the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, a Cabinet officer, or any member of the Legislature,” and receives or will receive payment for doing so, must register with state offices within five days after the publication of an article that mentions an elected state official.

If another blog post is added to a blog, the blogger would then be required to submit monthly reports on the 10th of each month with the appropriate state office. They would not have to submit a report on months when no content is published.

For blog posts that “concern an elected member of the legislature” or “an officer of the executive branch,” monthly reports must disclose the amount of compensation received for the coverage, rounded to the nearest $10 value.

Women who seek abortion in South Carolina could face death penalty
https://wpde.com/news/local/abortion-so ... rs-2-22-23
(WPDE) — A new bill introduced in the South Carolina Statehouse could put the death penalty on the table for women who get an abortion.

House Bill 3549 is an amendment to the South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023 and would define "person" to include an unborn child at any stage of development. This would ensure that an unborn child who is a "victim of homicide" or "victim of assault" is given the same protections under state laws -- including, up to the death penalty.

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States conservative majority ruled to end constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place for nearly 50 years, best known as Roe v. Wade.

Since then, several state groups, both pro-life and pro-choice, have expressed their support and opposition, respectively, to the decision.

Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, state lawmakers passed a Fetal Heartbeat Bill, which banned abortions after a heartbeat was detected. But, in January, the South Carolina Supreme Court blocked the abortion ban, deciding that it limited a woman's right to privacy and violated the state's constitution.

WTF?

Texas GOP Bill To Fully Reward Heterosexual Married Couples Who Have 10+ Children
"This Is Handmaid's Tale S**t"

Anew bill led by a Texas representative, Bryan Slaton, would give a 100 percent credit for property taxes to married couples with at least ten children. The filled bill would only provide graduated tax relief for heterosexual couples who were never divorced.

The newly introduced Texas House bill does not recognize LGBTQ families, single parents, or blended families.

The former pastor and Republican representative Slaton said, “With this bill, Texas will start saying to couples: ‘Get married, stay married, and be fruitful and multiply.'”

The controversial bill, known as H.B. 2889, would provide couples a 40 percent property tax reduction if they have four children, with the tax break increasing for every additional child.
