New York, Nebraska out of the running for early slots on 2024 Democratic presidential calendar
Source: CNN
Sixteen states and Puerto Rico have been invited to move forward with their applications to hold early Democratic Party presidential nominating contests in 2024, a Democratic National Committee official told CNN on Saturday.

New York, Nebraska and the group Democrats Abroad were the only applicants who didn’t make the cut.

The remaining applicants will make presentations later this month to the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee, which is tasked with determining the party’s nominating process.

Committee co-chairs James Roosevelt and Minyon Moore invited Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Texas and Washington to make presentations to the Rules and Bylaws Committee during a June 22-24 meeting.

Fox News Analyst Reveals How Republicans Really Feel about the House Panel Holding Trump Accountable
by Meaghan Ellis
June 14, 2022

Entire article (less screen shot of Fox TV):
(Alternet) A Fox News analyst has revealed how Republicans feel about former President Donald Trump being held accountable for his involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.

On Monday, June 14, Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume appeared on “Special Report” with host Bret Baier where he was asked if the House Select Committee's arguments against Trump were legitimate or politically motivated. According to Hume, it may be a bit of "both."

“Well, I think they’re doing both,” Hume said.

He also noted that if they manage to damage or stain Trump's reputation, they may be doing the Republican Party a favor. Hume noted that despite the former president maintaining a substantial amount of his supporters, he believes many leaders within the party are not convinced they can regain control of the White House with Trump as the party's presidential nominee.

“What strikes me about this, Bret, is that if they succeed ― either by damaging him or staining him such that he is either unable for legal or political reasons to run again ― they might end up finding out that they’ve done the Republican Party a great service,” he said.

Bernie Sanders says he won't primary Biden and would support him if he runs again
Source: CNN
Sen. Bernie Sanders, the progressive firebrand and former Democratic presidential candidate, said on Monday he would not challenge President Joe Biden in a 2024 primary and would back him if he runs – a comment that comes as Democrats are uncertain whether the 79-year-old President should run again.

“I think it’s a little too early,” the Vermont independent, who caucuses with Democrats, told CNN when asked if he would back Biden in 2024. “I think Biden will probably run again, and if he runs again, I will support him.”

Asked if he would run against Biden in a primary, Sanders said: “Not if he runs.”

The White House has said Biden plans to run for reelection next year.

Michigan Dems launch lobbying effort to earn early 2024 primary
Source: Politico

Michigan Democrats are ramping up their campaign to hold one of the first presidential primaries in 2024 and beyond.

In a letter obtained by POLITICO, the Michigan Democratic congressional delegation is making the case to Democratic National Committee members that the state’s diversity, competitiveness and ability to represent “the full range of experiences of the rest of our country” make it a worthy early presidential state. It’s the latest step in a wave of internal politicking unleashed by the party’s decision earlier this year to remake the Democratic nominating calendar.

A trailer-style video making the case for Michigan will be released early next week, while congressional leaders are also making personal calls to members of the DNC committee charged with recommending a new slate of early-voting states. A website dubbed “Move Michigan Up,”, is seeking signature support from voters.

“It’s an all-hands-on-deck moment for us, and so, we have the business community, the labor community, the political community, the faith community — we have everyone, really, reaching out,” said Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) in an interview with POLITICO. “Everyone in Michigan is excited to really be recognized for what we’ve known for a long time … we are the place to pick presidents.”

I guess this far out from the election, one can expect the polls to be all over the place. Either that, or something is missing in regards to depth of commitment:
58% of Americans think former President Donald Trump should be charged with a crime for his role in the Jan. 6 Capital riot - an increase of 6% since the House hearings on the insurrection began. 91% of Democrats, 19% of Republicans, and 62% of independents now think Trump should be charged with a crime.
Source: July 1, 2022 paper edition of The Week, page 17 apparently citing an ABC News/Ipsos poll.

Edit: Oh wait, maybe some folks think he should serve as president from the confines of a prison cell. (I must remember in the future to cover every angle).
