IBM’s new sub-1 nm chip packs nearly 100 billion transistors onto a chip the size of a fingernail, nearly twice the density of IBM’s 2 nm chip, unveiled in 2021. Enabled by a series of structural and material innovations, including IBM’s groundbreaking three-dimensional nanostack architecture, the technology demonstrates how continued gains in performance and efficiency remain possible even as chip features approach atomic dimensions.

Published technical results report the new chip is projected to offer a substantial leap in capability—up to 50 percent more performance, or 70 percent greater energy efficiency than IBM’s 2 nm node chips[1]—supercharging compute for applications ranging from generative AI and cloud infrastructure to next-generation electronic devices.
SUB-1 nanometer?!
featuring a revolutionary transistor architecture at the 0.7 nm, or 7 angstrom node
I wonder how much quantum effects are affecting this!
And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future

Apple Launches Its First-Ever 2nm Chip: the Mini M6
You'll find it in the new Mac Mini for $899 and up.
By Devesh Beri August 26, 2026
Apple has updated one of its fan favorites, the Mac Mini, with its first processor built on a 2nm process: the M6 chip.

The M6 has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, with a Neural Accelerator in each GPU core. Apple says this design gives the Mac Mini up to 300% faster AI performance and 2x faster graphics than the previous M4 model.

The company announced the new model on Tuesday, with preorders opening immediately and shipments beginning September 22. The Mac Mini now starts at $899 for the M6 version or $1,699 for the version containing the M5 Pro, which was introduced earlier this year.

Apple also refreshed its Mac Studio with its M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. The new M5 Ultra has up to 36 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores. It also includes a 32-core Neural Engine and supports up to 512GB of memory with 1.2TB/s of unified memory bandwidth.
