Apple Expected to Introduce M5 iPad Pro, Base M5 MacBook Pro This Week
Industry sources say the entry-level, 14-inch MacBook Pro with the base M5 chip is ready for launch.
By Devesh Beri October 13, 2025

Apple is preparing to introduce a new product this week via an online announcement, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports. Among the possible launches are the M5 iPad Pro and a Vision Pro with an updated chipset (probably M5 as well) and an improved strap design. Both devices are believed to be ready for immediate release after the announcement.

But there's one more fan favorite: the MacBook Pro. Industry sources say the entry-level, 14-inch MacBook Pro with the base M5 chip is ready for launch. Conversely, new high-end MacBook Pro variants with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips will likely come out early next year, possibly because those chips are not in abundant supply yet.

Apple Reportedly Testing OLED Screens for MacBook Air, iPad Air, and iPad Mini
Apple is also said to be working on an OLED version of the MacBook Pro, which could be released as early as next year.

Apple is planning some major display upgrades across its product lines. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the company is testing OLED versions of the MacBook Air, iPad Air, and iPad mini. Apple is even said to be working on an OLED version of the MacBook Pro, which could manifest as next year's MacBook Pro M6.

Right now, Apple restricts OLED to the iPhone, iPad Pro, and Apple Watch, while the Vision Pro uses micro-OLED. Since Apple has already released its MacBook Pro M5 with almost the same physical specs as the MacBook Pro M4, the company plans to maintain the current display in the upcoming M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models, which are yet to be announced.

The company is expected to introduce a redesigned MacBook Pro with M6 Pro and M6 Max chips in 2027. That timeline means the first OLED MacBook Air may not arrive until 2028, when it would be reasonable to expect the M7 or even M8 chip. (The M5 version of the MacBook Air is due this spring.)

Protective case adds AI-powered E Ink productivity hub to your iPhone
By Paul Ridden
November 27, 2025
We've recently seen a bunch of E Ink smartphones released for eye-friendly productivity on the go. But what if you don't want to give up your handset, yet would like an ePaper assistant on tap? That's where the Reetle SmartInk I comes in.

First things first, the name. The startup explains that the shared brand and product moniker represents two aspects of its design. The first declares its use as a reading device, while the second half "symbolizes the tough shell that protects your phone" in the form of a beetle. Put them together – while snipping out a few letters – and you get Reetle.

Lenovo’s Next Legion Laptop Can Stretch Its Screen for Ultrawide Gaming
It's expected to make its debut in early 2026, likely at CES 2026.
By Devesh Beri December 10, 2025
Lenovo is reportedly preparing to launch a Legion Pro Rollable gaming laptop, which will feature a horizontally expanding OLED display that rolls from a normal laptop screen into an ultrawide 21:9 panel. According to "leaked promotional material" obtained by Windows Latest, Lenovo will debut the laptop in early 2026, likely at CES 2026.

The Legion Pro Rollable is Lenovo's second laptop to feature a rolling display. Its first was the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, which launched in January 2025 with a vertical-roll screen that expanded from 14 inches to 16.7 inches.

Lenovo Slated to Introduce 3 Snapdragon X2 Windows Laptops at CES 2026
This year's premium Lenovo ThinkPad and Legion gaming laptops will use Intel and AMD processors.

Lenovo plans to launch four new Copilot+ PCs powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 chipsets at CES 2026. The company is betting on ARM-based Windows to capture the thin-and-light laptop market, reports Windows Latest.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x (14-inch) is the lineup's most premium option. It runs on the 18-core Snapdragon X2 Elite processor and weighs just 1.17kg, measuring 13.9mm thick. The laptop features a 2.8K OLED display with 1,100 nits of peak brightness, and Lenovo claims it delivers 29 hours of battery life on a single charge. The Yoga Slim 7x will be priced at $949.99 upon launch in Q2 2026.

The new IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 boasts a 360-degree hinge that lets users switch between laptop and tablet modes. It will also run on the Snapdragon X2 Plus. This 14-inch model also comes with an OLED touchscreen and the Lenovo Linear Pen 2, though its exact launch date and pricing remain unconfirmed.

All-in-one mini PC aims to replace your dock, screen, and phone charger

The ViewDock Gen2 is a mini PC that combines Ryzen-powered performance with a built-in display, wireless charging, and a full I/O in a compact vertical design.

Mini PCs have come a long way in recent years, becoming increasingly capable, delivering near-desktop level performance despite their compact size. Most still rely on various external accessories to create a full workspace, though: docks, secondary displays, and charging pads.

The ViewDock Gen2 is going for a more combined design. Currently in the early stages of crowdfunding on Kickstarter, it combines a mini PC, dock, and secondary display into a single unit. It's not the first time we've seen this kind of thing: Miniproca attempted to ship a similar mini PC back in 2024 – though it ultimately never made it to production.

The G2’s features and spread of ports are a clear sign of its aim: to reduce clutter and consolidate everything into a single device.

LG's next-gen laptop displays switch refresh rates for MacBook-beating battery life
By Abhimanyu Ghoshal
March 28, 2026
https://newatlas.com/laptops/lg-laptop- ... tery-life/
Windows laptops have traditionally lagged behind Apple's MacBooks in the battery life department, making the latter much easier to recommend for most people who need something for work and school. We might start to see a fairer fight across the board, thanks to an interesting new display technology from LG.

The company is starting to mass produce an LCD panel for laptops that can slow its refresh rate down to 1 Hz when it's displaying static content, and ratchet up to 120 Hz for more dynamic stuff, like playing videos or games.

Refresh rate refers to the number of times a screen is redrawn each second. You generally want a higher refresh rate for smoother motion in video and animations. With a slower refresh rate, scrolling through menus and articles might look janky, and videos can appear choppy.

Lowering the refresh rate when on-screen content stays the same allows the display to draw less power, so you can eke out more use from your laptop before needing to recharge.

By Monica J. White
May 13, 2026

reMarkable’s new Paper Pure refines the E Ink notebook formula with a more responsive display, longer battery life, and improved integration with digital workflows.

Digital paper tablets have been steadily carving out a niche for people who want a distraction-free device for writing, reading, and sketching. We’ve covered a few such tablets in the past, such as the reMarkable 2 and more recent color E Ink tablets, which have pushed the category further into the mainstream.
