Weirdly I'm surprised that he's come out in favor of renewables.

As bad as this will be for biological modification futurism. I will say that the more power elon has the better it will be for a.i, driverless cars, space travel and probably solar. We want him to be sectary of science and tech preferably and close to Trump. There's no way in hell such will result in an anti-science Trump.firestar464 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 5:48 pm Weirdly I'm surprised that he's come out in favor of renewables.

No, we don't want an unaligned Grok singularity. That would really, really cook humanity.
Furthermore, he's still preoccupied with his pointless Mars colony (waste of money), and deregulation of autonomous cars is going to kill people and delay adoption by the public. The problem is that now space and AI science will be considered a right-wing thing.

Protective coating significantly extends perovskite solar cell life

Northwestern University scientists have developed a new protective coating that significantly extends the life of perovskite solar cells, making them more practical for applications outside the lab.
Although perovskite solar cells are more efficient and less expensive than traditional silicon solar cells, perovskite has—until now—been limited by its lack of long-term stability. Typically, perovskite solar cells use an ammonium-based coating layer to enhance efficiency. While effective, ammonium-based layers degrade under environmental stress, such as heat and moisture.
Northwestern researchers have now developed a more robust layer—based on amidinium.
In experiments, the new coating was 10 times more resistant to decomposition compared to conventional ammonium-based coatings. Even better, the amidinium-coated cells also tripled the cell's T90 lifetime—the time it takes for a cell's efficiency to drop 90% of its initial value when exposed to harsh conditions.

Stabilizing ligand enables 22% efficiency in all-inorganic perovskite cells

An international team of physicists, chemists and electronic engineers reports that a stabilizing ligand enables all-inorganic perovskite cells with an efficiency of up to 22%. In their study, published in the journal Nature, the group came upon the idea of introducing para-toluenesulfonyl hydrazide (PTSH) as a stabilizing ligand to promote the formation of films during the crystallization process.
Prior research has shown that perovskite can replace silicon in solar cells. Unfortunately, use of the calcium-titanate-based mineral has suffered from manufacturing and scaling problems. This is because, to date, such efforts have involved the use of organic cations. In this new effort, the researchers tested the possibility of using inorganic cations, resulting in all-inorganic perovskite solar cells with reasonable efficiencies.

Abu Dhabi will soon be home to a 5.2-GW solar farm – snagging the top spot on the global solar energy plant leaderboard.
That's part of a gigascale project set to be built in the capital of the United Arab Emirates by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company aka Masdar, and Emirates Water and Electricity Company. The firms note it'll be the world's first '24/7' solar photovolatic plant coupled with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to match.
What that means is the solar plant will be able to supply energy even when the sun's not out – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Between the 5.2-GW solar plant and the 19-GWh BESS, the project will deliver up to 1 GW of baseload power every day gathered using solar panels. That should be enough to power 750,000 homes.

"Solar power surpasses coal in EU for first time "
https://www.iraqinews.com/business/sola ... irst-time/This is the headline from an article from the site IraqiNews dated 1/23/25 and it is sourced from AFP. In about 6 years time the EU nations have reduced their power production from fossil fuels to 29% from where it started at 39%. As noted solar now produces a larger percentage than coal.
Serious commitment was fundamental to making it happen. Just imagine what a serious commitment could accomplish for America in so many things if there were no MAGA GQP. If not for them we could have reduction in childhood poverty and hunger, improved prenatal care and nutrition, improved early childhood education and the list goes on.
Instead we have the continued worship and greed over fossil fuel production and roll backs of conservation efforts. Even as the effects of climate change bang the world in the face.
