CES 2022 seemingly falling apart: Google and GM join T-Mobile and others in opting-out
CES, the world’s largest technology show, appears to be in jeopardy due to rising COVID-19 cases in the United States. On Wednesday evening, exhibitor Lenovo announced that it would “suspend all on-site activity in Las Vegas,” following announcements from T-Mobile, Amazon, Meta, and others that they’d be ditching as well and despite CES organizers’ statements today that the show would go on.

Sony debuts Vision-S SUV at CES 2022 as part of its new mobility division
Two years after the debut of the Vision-S sedan concept, Sony says it's serious about building cars. At CES 2022 on Tuesday, the company announced a new division -- Sony Mobility Inc. -- as well as a new electric SUV concept, the Vision-S 02.

The Vision-S 02 builds on the lessons learned from the Vision-S 01 sedan, which Sony actually started testing on public roads last year. Its swoopy, compact shape is reminiscent of the Tesla Model Y, and at 192.7 inches long, 76.0 inches wide and 65.0 inches tall, the Vision-S SUV is roughly the same size.

Sony says the Vision-S 02 is powered by a pair of electric motors, each producing 200 kilowatts, or about 268 horsepower apiece. The SUV rides on 20-inch wheels and is said to weigh 5,467 pounds. As for the battery size or the estimated range, those figures are TBD.

Samsung's $899 portable projector turns any surface into a smart TV at CES 2022
Samsung TVs just got a lot more portable. At CES 2022 on Tuesday, the company added the Freestyle, an ultraportable smart TV projector, to its lineup.

The Freestyle weighs less than 2 pounds, comes with a 180-degree cradle stand and can project content onto walls, screens or anywhere else from 30 to 100 inches. It features 1080p resolution, as well as auto-focus and auto-leveling capabilities to automatically align its image to any surface. It can play music and includes 360-degree sound. Plus, it comes with access to Samsung's smart TV platform, so yes, you will be able to stream Netflix and project it wherever you like. It will cost $899 in the US and is currently available for preorder on Samsung's website.

The ongoing health crisis continues to affect the consumers' shopping behavior, changing how companies deliver goods. The result is that contactless deliveries have surged in popularity, with robots popping out to supply the demand.

The Ottobot is the creation of tech startup Ottonomy. The company started pilot tests in 2020 and has since perfected its product into what rolled today at CES: a machine ready to take retail and restaurant industries by storm.

Designed for curbside, last-mile, and indoor deliveries, the robot is equipped with sensors for situational awareness, which allow it to understand its surroundings and check for threats as it navigates. To get where it needs, the Ottobot makes a digital map of the destination and then localizes itself within the map, providing live updates as it runs to deliver the goods.

The Ottonomy's proprietary contextual mobility navigation technology allows the machine to make its way thourgh crowded places and unknown settings, such as airports. The robots can also "lend a hand" and become part of an establishment's staff to help provide deliveries both indoors and outdoors.

"Not going to see this in your home in the next decade"
Unsurprised, but it will definitely be fascinating to watch it develop.
Years pass by quickly— I still remember 2015 as if it were yesterday, and that was 7 years ago. Thus I can only imagine what this is going to be like in another 7 years. What will Ameca be like at CES 2029?

As a technophile, this is close to my dreams. And I'm happy to see that CES 2022 is host to humanoid robots like it, as I would have dreamed last decade.

Geez, you know, part of me hopes masks don't go out of style. I can easily envision these techno-masks as being a form of proto-transhumanism.
