KANTHARALAK, Thailand (AP) — Thailand’s government said a rocket attack from Cambodia on Sunday killed a 63-year-old villager, its first civilian death reported as a direct result of combat over the past week along the border of the two Southeast Asian nations.

Both countries confirmed that large-scale fighting, which was set off by a skirmish on Dec. 7 that wounded two Thai soldiers, continued Sunday. The two sides are battling over longstanding competing claims to patches of frontier land, some of which contain centuries-old temple ruins.

More than two dozen people on both sides of the border have officially been reported killed in the past week’s fighting, while more than half a million have been displaced.

Reporters from The Associated Press arrived at the scene of Sunday’s rocket impact in Sisaket province’s Kantharalak District about 10 minutes after it hit. They witnessed the body of a man totally wrapped in bandages being put on a stretcher that was taken to an ambulance.

Sokoto residents recount moments US airstrikes hit communities

https://dailytrust.com/sokoto-residents ... mmunities/
“We are puzzled by the airstrike on our community because Jabo is not facing any security challenges.

“The last bandit attack we experienced was about two years ago, when some villages within our district were targeted,” the resident said.

A medical practitioner living in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the explosion occurred just a few metres behind her house, damaging the roof.

“It happened around 10 p.m. My family and I were indoors when we heard a loud blast behind the house. We rushed outside in fear. Later, we realised it was a drone strike. Thankfully, it did not hit our residence and no one was killed or injured, but we barely slept due to fear,” she said.

John Simpson: 'I've reported on 40 wars but I've never seen a year like 2025'

29 December 2025

I've reported on more than 40 wars around the world during my career, which goes back to the 1960s. I watched the Cold War reach its height, then simply evaporate. But I've never seen a year quite as worrying as 2025 has been - not just because several major conflicts are raging but because it is becoming clear that one of them has geopolitical implications of unparalleled importance.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that the current conflict in his country could escalate into a world war. After nearly 60 years of observing conflict, I've got a nasty feeling he's right.

Right now, it's all talk, unfortunately. EU is also a bit impotent due to decades of overreliance on America and refusal to ramp up when Russia attacked.
Their only real options are economic, bluffing, and the final nuclear option being alliance with China if China is actually willing.

If America really wants to fight the EU, you lot are fucked. Unless the UK and France decide to bring it down with nukes.
Personally I don't think Trump will go through with it if it seems like he loses face or someone reminds him that China will almost unilaterally win if he obliterates America's alliances. Our global hegemony relies on force projection and reserve currency status and both literally rely on these alliances. A war with NATO destroys both.

But
You never know

Hope he's dissuaded and distracted.
Do not think he's bluffing, though. Europeans have no idea the danger they're in. He's not operating on the same geopolitical forum as even the likes of Bush or his own first term administration.
And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future

Trump says anything less than having Greenland in the United States' hands is 'unacceptable'

Source: AP

Updated 7:49 AM EST, January 14, 2026

NUUK, Greenland (AP) — President Donald Trump said Wednesday that NATO should help the U.S. acquire Greenland and anything less than American control is unacceptable, hours before Vice President JD Vance was to host Danish and Greenlandic officials for talks.

In a post on his social media site, Trump reiterated his argument that the U.S. “needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security.” He added that “NATO should be leading the way for us to get it” and that otherwise Russia or China would — “AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!”

“NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the UNITED STATES,” Trump wrote. “Anything less than that is unacceptable.”

Greenland, a semiautonomous territory of NATO ally Denmark, is at the center of a geopolitical storm as Trump insists he wants to own it — and residents of its capital, Nuuk, say it isn’t for sale. The White House hasn’t ruled out taking the Arctic island by force. Vance is to meet Denmark’s foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and his Greenlandic counterpart Vivian Motzfeldt in Washington later Wednesday to discuss Greenland.
