Collecting Dead Russians: Central Asians Being Lured to Work in Occupied Ukraine
March 11, 2023

Introduction:
(RFE/RL via Eurasia Review) — Urmat has signed a contract to work for a Russian company that will pay him about $120 a day to collect dead Russian soldiers on the front line in Ukraine.

The migrant worker from Kyrgyzstan, who did not want his last name published, says he is aware of the risks involved and has discussed the topic with Kyrgyz migrants working in Ukraine’s war zones.

“They told me sometimes they came under shelling and that people get killed,” Urmat told RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz Service. “[People] do this kind of work because they’re in a desperate situation. Some have debts.”

Hundreds of Central Asian migrants have been hired by Russian firms to work in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory despite warnings from their governments not to go to Ukraine. Kyiv has also stated that such workers will be seen as accomplices of the Russian invaders.

The majority of the migrants are working in construction in war-ravaged cities like Mariupol. Other jobs involve digging trenches and gathering dead bodies.

This is an oversimplification.
Yes, western propaganda is an oversimplification.

Curiously enough, nobody pointed that out about the hundreds of thousands of Russians who were about to die because of the cold; unlike the Ukrainians, who were going to get winter equipment... from Canada.

Correction. (More or less).
We still hope to be able to deliver the first tanks to Ukraine during the spring... The first sub-goal of the project is to be able to deliver tanks to two battalions –corresponding to approximately 80 tanks– as quickly as possible. The first tanks are expected to be ready during the spring and will be used to train Ukrainian forces.
Besides education and training on the Leopard 1 tanks, Ukraine will be offered spare parts and an ammunition package.
Acting Defence Minister of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen.

"Hope" and that is the "statement", facts may take a bit longer.

An open admission to violating the geneva convention and treating civilians as combatants.

Nope. Article 4:
A. Prisoners of war, in the sense of the present Convention, are persons belonging to one of the following categories...

4. Persons who accompany the armed forces without actually being members thereof, such as civilian members of military aircraft crews, war correspondents, supply contractors, members of labour units or of services responsible for the welfare of the armed forces...
So, the way I read it is that support workers can be treated as prisoners of war. So, as long as their rights as such are then respected there would be no violation.

I wish the United states would just f*ck Russia up for this. Russia sucks pretty bad and should be lucky that we're scared to do it personally.

There is a very big difference between taking a civilian labor unit hostage and actively shelling/firing upon it... The Geneva convention does not at all imply that it is okay to fire upon civilians engaged in non-combat labor.

accomplices
That term doesn't look very respectful with the Geneva C. but no one used the word "shelling".

Ukraine has been torturing and executing prisoners (and shelling civilian and conducting terrorists attacks), I don't think it's going to draw a red line about that.
The Geneva C. has never been respected, it's only there to avoid things getting even worse (strange concept this one).
Vae victis!, only those on the loosing side will be war criminals.
US does not recognizes the ICC but wants to send Putin there, do you need more?

It looks like talking about how many angels can fit in a pin's head.
