Family: 5 shot during funeral at Graceland Cemetery in Racine
TMJ4 Web Staff

RACINE, Wis. — A suspect shot and injured five people during a funeral at Graceland Cemetery in Racine Thursday afternoon, family tells TMJ4 News. Racine police described the shooting as a "critical" incident and urged people to stay away. Police said multiple shots were fired, that there are victims but their conditions are unknown. The scene is still active and being investigated, police said.

The Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory confirms to TMJ4 News that a funeral during that time was for Da'Shontay L. King Sr. The worker at the funeral home said King's family members were hit. All funeral home staff are OK, they said.

Family previously identified Da'Shontay King Sr. as the man who a Racine police officer shot and killed near 12th and Schiller on March 20. Police said then that an officer attempted a traffic stop for a firearms investigation. Police said King got out of the vehicle armed with a firearm. The officer ordered the suspect to stop and comply with commands, but he refused, police said. The officer opened fire. King was pronounced dead at the scene.

A mass shooting, and 2 more bodies: 3 Phoenix shootings in one night leave loved ones reeling
Zayna Syed
Arizona Republic

Three separate shootings in Phoenix on Friday night and early Saturday morning left Phoenix police and loved ones searching for answers.

A mass shooting at 10th Avenue and Hatcher Road left one 14-year-old girl dead and eight others injured. In other incidents, two separate victims were shot and were later pronounced dead. Police found both victims with gunshot wounds, one a teenage boy near 13th and Vogel avenues and the other a man in a vehicle near 39th and Grand avenues.

The deadly evening comes a little more than a week since an 18-year-old gunman in Uvalde, Texas, killed 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School. The shooting spurred another national conversation about gun laws.

Meagan Orantes and her 14-year old daughter, Daniella Franco, showed up to the scene of the shooting at 10th Avenue and Hatcher Road. A friend had called Franco and said her close friend had been shot in the area. Franco wanted answers. “He was like a brother to me. We always called each other brother and sister,” Daniella said, tearing up. “I want them to try to find the people for my brother and (my friend) because there’s a lot of shootings going on. I just want them to catch the people.”

Orantes said her son, Franco's biological older brother, was killed at a house party in 2020 when he was 19 years old. She called for commonsense gun laws.

14 People Shot, 3 Dead, in Mass Shooting on South Street (Philadelphia)
Source: KYW
It happened on South Street between 2nd and 3rd streets – an area lined with restaurants, shops and bars – shortly before midnight. Police said officers heard multiple gunshots, then saw several gunmen firing into a crowd of people.

An officer fired his gun at one of the shooters, Philadelphia Police Inspector D. F. Pace said. It is not known if the suspect was struck, however they did drop their gun and flee.

The officer was "within 10 to 15 yards of the shooter, watching this person shoot into the crowd" when he decided to engage, Pace said.

At least 14 people were struck by the barrage of gunfire, police said. Three of them, two men and a woman, were shot multiple times and died at the hospital.

From graduation parties to a mall, 10 mass shootings over the weekend leave at least a dozen dead
Source: CNN:

and over 60 injured. (rest of headline)
They were at places that seemed safe -- but few spaces in America are guaranteed safe anymore.
At least a dozen people were killed and more than 60 injured in at least 10 mass shootings this weekend in the United States.

Some were at graduation parties, a nightclub, a popular entertainment district or a strip mall.
The bloodshed comes as the nation grieves a spate of killings this past month, including a massacre at an elementary school in Texas; a deadly assault at a medical facility in Oklahoma; a racist rampage at a supermarket in New York; and an attack on a Taiwanese church service in California.

The US has suffered at least 246 mass shootings in 2022 -- far more than there have been days so far in the year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. That's the same number of mass shootings in 2021 through June 5. In 2020, there were 161 mass shootings through June 5; in 2019, that number was 154. The non-profit and CNN both define a mass shooting as one in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter.

2 arrested after Philadelphia shooting left 3 people dead and 11 wounded, officials say
Source: CNN

(CNN)A night of revelry on Philadelphia's South Street turned chaotic Saturday as gunmen opened fire into a crowd, leaving two people and a suspect dead and 11 wounded in one of at least 13 weekend mass shootings across the United States.

One of the suspected gunmen is among the three people killed, Philadelphia police said Monday. One suspect has been charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of aggravated assault, according to Philadelphia District Attorney's Chief of Homicide Joanne Pescatore.

A second individual wanted in connection with the shooting was taken into custody by the US Marshals Service, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner told CNN Monday night. Officials from the district attorney's office earlier stated that the individual would face charges of attempted murder, assault and tampering with evidence, among others.

That suspect stayed at the scene to render aid to one of the men who later died, and while there provided "all his information to police," Philadelphia District Attorney's Chief of Homicide Joanne Pescatore said.

Not to sound disrespectful but I wouldn't consider a shooting with 4 victims a mass shooting.
However, they are still too many shootings for a first world country.

Man arrested for alleged gun violence threat at bus yard

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — A transportation worker was arrested Friday for allegedly threatening gun violence at a Northern California rail yard, authorities said.

Deputies were called to the Chaboya Division bus yard of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority in San Jose shortly before 8 a.m. by a report that the man had made a threat while other workers were there, according to a statement from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats. His name and other details weren’t immediately released.

“VTA has zero tolerance for this type of threatening behavior and will continue to treat any similar incident with an urgent response,” the agency said in a statement, adding that trauma counselors were sent to the yard.
