Police detained a man in his 50s, who was also being treated for injuries, and said they were not seeking other suspects.

Authorities did not identify the man but anti-immigrant groups said he was a foreigner and gathered near the scene of the attack in Parnell Square, in the north of Ireland’s capital.

Sections of the crowd clashed with police, reportedly injuring several officers. Authorities suspended bus and tram services in parts of Dublin and called for calm.

The stabbing incident happened at about 1.30pm on Thursday outside Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire, a school at Parnell Square East, a bustling part of Dublin.

Police said a five-year-old girl, a woman in her 30s and a man in his 50s sustained serious injuries. The girl was receiving emergency medical treatment. Updated 12:19 PM CST, November 26, 2023
AUTRYVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Deputies responding to a call about shots fired in North Carolina on Sunday found four people shot to death in what appeared to be a campsite for homeless people, authorities said.

An initial review of the crime scene indicated someone killed three people before killing themselves, Sampson County Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Pope told WRAL-TV.

Two men and two women were found dead around a tent at the end of a private road rutted with huge potholes near Autryville, authorities said.

The names of the people killed have not been released and Pope said investigators are still collecting evidence to determine exactly how the shootings unfolded.

Emergency rooms in at least 3 states diverting patients after ransomware attack

Source: NBC News

Nov. 27, 2023, 4:52 PM EST

Hospitals in at least three states are diverting patients from their emergency rooms after a major cyberattack hit their parent company last week. Ardent Health Services, which oversees 30 hospitals across the U.S., said Monday that it had been the victim of a severe ransomware attack in Oklahoma, News Mexico and Texas, forcing it to take action.

“In an abundance of caution, our facilities are rescheduling some non-emergent, elective procedures and diverting some emergency room patients to other area hospitals until systems are back online,” the company said in a news release.

Spokespeople at three Ardent-owned hospital chains across the U.S. — Hillcrest HealthCare System in Oklahoma, Lovelace Health System in New Mexico, and UT Health in Texas — each told NBC News Monday that at least some of their emergency rooms were diverting patients to other hospitals while the company tries to fix the damage from the attack.

Ardent said it had shut down a significant number of its computerized services, including clinical programs and its use of Epic Systems, a program that tracks patients’ health care records.

Six people were killed and three others, including two police officers, were wounded in attacks Tuesday in Austin and San Antonio, Texas, authorities said. A suspect, identified as 34-year-old Shane James, was being held on capital murder charges, authorities said Wednesday.

Two of the victims who were killed at a home in San Antonio are believed to be the suspect's parents, authorities said Wednesday.

The suspect was charged in Travis County with capital murder, with more charges to come, Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson said. Authorities in Bexar County, which includes San Antonio, are waiting to bring charges for either murder or capital murder for the killings there, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said Wednesday.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement that the suspect "must never see the light of day again."
.............................
The suspect was in the Army for two years, an Army spokesperson confirmed to CBS News. He was an infantry officer from February 2013 to August 2015, when he left the Army as a first lieutenant. The suspect had not been deployed overseas. Salazar said Wednesday there had been a "domestic violence incident of some sort" that had "something to do with" why he left the military, but did not elaborate on the details....................................

Six French teens convicted over their roles in an Islamic extremist's killing of a teacher

Source: AP

Updated 5:03 PM CST, December 8, 2023
PARIS (AP) — A French juvenile court on Friday convicted six teenagers for their roles in the 2020 beheading of a teacher by an Islamic extremist, an attack that shocked the country and shone a light on the real-world dangers of online hate speech.

Samuel Paty, a history and geography teacher, was killed near his school after showing his class cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a debate on free expression. Attacker Abdoullakh Anzorov, a young Chechen who had become radicalized, was killed by police.

The court found five of the defendants, who were 14 and 15 at the time of the attack, guilty of involvement in staking out the teacher and identifying him for the attacker. The sixth defendant, 13 at the time, was found guilty of lying about the classroom debate in comments that aggravated online anger against the teacher.

After the ruling, the six defendants left the courtroom without speaking. Some had their heads down as they listened to the verdict. One appeared to wipe tears.
