Killer of 8 in California had talked of workplace attacks
Source: AP

By JOCELYN GECKER and MARTHA MENDOZA
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — An employee who gunned down eight people at a California rail yard and then killed himself as law enforcement rushed in had talked about killing people at work more than a decade ago, his ex-wife said.

“I never believed him, and it never happened. Until now,” a tearful Cecilia Nelms told The Associated Press on Wednesday following the 6:30 a.m. attack at a light rail facility for the Valley Transportation Authority.

“When our deputies went through the door, initially he was still firing rounds. When our deputy saw him, he took his life,” Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith told reporters.

The sheriff’s office is next door to the rail yard, which serves the county of more than 1 million people in the heart of the Silicon Valley.

Two people were killed and up to 25 people wounded in a mass shooting at a concert early Sunday morning in Northwest Miami-Dade, officials say. One of those injured is in critical condition, according to police.
The shooting started after midnight at a concert at a billiards hall in the 7600 block of Northwest 186th Street, an unincorporated area of the county west of Miami Gardens, Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez said.

Some concert-goers where outside when a white Nissan Pathfinder pulled up, Ramierz said. Three unidentified people stepped out of the SUV with assault rifles and handguns and began shooting into the crowd.

Two people were killed in the hail of gunfire and 20 to 25 others suffered gunshot wounds. One of the injured is in critical condition. The injured were taken to several different hospitals.

. . .

This is the second major shooting in the Miami area over the Memorial Day weekend. Late Friday into Saturday, one person was killed and six others wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Wynwood area of Miami.

American Airlines extends suspension of alcohol services following Southwest flight attendant assaul
Source: CNN

By Jazmin Goodwin,
New York (CNN Business)American Airlines has joined Southwest Airlines (LUV) in suspending alcohol services on flights, the airline said Saturday. The decision follows a recent assault of a Southwest flight attendant that resulted in a serious injury.

"Flight attendants are on the front lines every day not only ensuring our customers' safety, but are also calming fears, answering questions, and enforcing policies like federally-required face masks," said Brady Byrnes, managing director of flight service at American, in a memo to flight attendants obtained by CNN.

"Over the past week we've seen some of these stressors create deeply disturbing situations on board aircraft," the memo said. "Let me be clear: American Airlines will not tolerate assault or mistreatment of our crews."

Like other airlines, American (AAL) first suspended alcohol sales in March 2020 to minimize interaction between crew and passengers and to ensure safer flights.

In Mexico, cartels are hunting down police at their homes
By MARK STEVENSON2 hours ago

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The notoriously violent Jalisco cartel has responded to Mexico’s “hugs, not bullets” policy with a policy of its own: The cartel kidnapped several members of an elite police force in the state of Guanajuato, tortured them to obtain names and addresses of fellow officers and is now hunting down and killing police at their homes, on their days off, in front of their families.

It is a type of direct attack on officers seldom seen outside of the most gang-plagued nations of Central America and poses the most direct challenge yet to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s policy of avoiding violence and rejecting any war on the cartels.

Coleman Thomas Blevins, 28, of Kerrville, Texas, was arrested on Friday, authorities said.

(CNN)Law enforcement officials have arrested a Texas man who they say was planning a "mass casualty event," possibly at a Walmart.

Coleman Thomas Blevins, 28, of Kerrville, was arrested Friday "on a warrant for a Terroristic Threat to Create Public Fear of Serious Bodily Injury," according to a news release from the Kerr County Sheriff's Office (KCSO).

Multiple agencies worked together for a week to intercept and foil the plan for an attack on the public, the release said, including the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division, the FBI, the Kerrville Police Department and the US Secret Service.

An unhinged man randomly slugged an Asian woman in the face, knocking her to the ground, in a brazen attack outside a Chinatown restaurant on Monday, police said.

Surveillance video posted on Twitter by Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, whose district covers Chinatown, captured the horrifying daytime assault on Bayard Street, near Mott Street.

The 55-year-old victim can be seen walking by the Kong Sihk Tong café around 6:15 p.m. — when a man in an orange hoodie and denim jacket whacks her unprovoked.

Chaos Breaks Out at Six Flags St. Louis Over Stolen Turkey Legs At Least One Arrested
06/01/2021
A wild scene broke out at Six Flags St. Louis over Memorial Day weekend over stolen turkey legs.

The video starts with park patrons picking up turkey legs and handing them to friends. Then police stepped in and arrested at least one woman.
This was an insane scene!

It wont help business at the local Six Flags amusement park.

Obviously, you can see NO ONE is concerned about the coronavirus pandemic......

A 12-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl broke into a home, found weapons and opened fire on deputies
Source: CNN

Deputies in Volusia County, Florida, shot a 14-year-old girl on Tuesday night after she and a 12-year-old boy fled a group home, broke into a house, found multiple guns inside and then opened fire on deputies, according to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood.

The girl was shot in the abdomen and the arm and is in stable condition, while the boy surrendered and was not injured, the sheriff's office said.

(snip)

The startling spree of gunfire came as Sheriff Chitwood insisted deputies repeatedly tried to deescalate the situation, make personal contact with the juveniles, and were forced to hide behind trees amid waves of shooting.

"We try to deescalate, we throw a cell phone into the house to try to talk to them. The 14-year-old comes out of the garage with a pump shotgun, levels it at deputies, and despite warnings to drop it, she walks back into the garage. She comes back a second time, and that's when deputies open fire," Chitwood said.

Terrible decision, given the rising trend of mass shootings.

A federal judge, who compares an AR-15 to a Swiss Army knife, overturns California's ban on assault weapons

Updated 1106 GMT (1906 HKT) June 5, 2021

In a ruling that compared the AR-15 to a Swiss Army knife, a federal judge overturned California's longtime ban on assault weapons on Friday, ruling it violates the Second Amendment's right to bear arms.

Assault weapons have been banned in California since 1989, according to the ruling. The law has been updated several times since it was originally passed.

According to the ruling by U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez of San Diego, the assault weapons ban deprives Californians from owning assault-style weapons commonly allowed in other states. Benitez issued a permanent injunction Friday so the law cannot be enforced.

"Like the Swiss Army Knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment," Benitez said in the ruling. "Firearms deemed as 'assault weapons' are fairly ordinary, popular, modern rifles."
