Idaho Republicans file resolution to repeal marriage equality

Idaho Republican legislators have introduced a resolution on Tuesday urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 decision that established marriage equality nationwide.

The measure, House Joint Memorial 1, claims the Supreme Court overstepped its authority by requiring states to recognize same-sex marriages. It also calls for a return to the so-called “natural definition” of marriage as between one man and one woman, a concept supporters insist is rooted in tradition.

The non-binding resolution, spearheaded by the State Affairs Committee, asserts that states and not federal courts should decide marriage laws. While the resolution carries no legal weight, its introduction sends a clear signal about the state GOP’s priorities.

“The Idaho Legislature insists on restoring the issue of marriage and enforcement of all laws pertaining to marriage back to the several states and the people,” the resolution reads.

The move comes even as a majority of Americans—including majorities of Democrats and independents and nearly half of Republicans—support marriage equality. A 2024 Gallup survey found that 69 percent of Americans favor the legality of same-sex marriages, a figure that has remained consistently high since the Obergefell ruling.

Trump's Executive Order Affecting Transgender People

I'm still reading through it, but at first glance, it's really bad.

There is a type of trans woman who is feminized pre birth and are born effectively feminine straight women. Not being able to change legal sex will make it harder for them to live as women without people knowing they are trans.




I was internet friends with someone like this I am not sure if they had legally changed sex yet and they disappeared from the web when Trump won. Correct me if I am wrong I get the impression people will just treat someone based on how they look and act so its more so that people who pass as the other sex and fit in with the other sex can't get legal changes preventing them from living as the other sex without others knowing they are trans.

Many more FTM pass as men but most negative news and such does not care about them.

There is also presumable issues of pushing cultural change that makes it harder for people to transition in the first place.

I see it like intersex for these people, but I don't think it technically is because of chromosomes, the point being even trans women more feminine than most women or vice versa for trans men won't be able to change legal sex.

Major Uncertainties Remain About Impact of Treatment for Gender Related Distress

Introduction:

(Eurekalert) Major uncertainties remain about the impact of puberty blockers and gender affirming hormone therapy on children and young people with gender related distress (gender dysphoria), making it impossible to determine conclusively whether they help or harm, find two pooled data analyses of the available evidence, published online in the Archives of Disease in Childhood.

The findings echo those of the Hilary Cass review of gender identity services in the NHS, published last April. This concluded that the evidence for the use of puberty blockers and masculinising and feminising hormones for gender related distress—psychological distress caused by a mismatch between birth sex and gender identity—was wholly inadequate, precluding the ability to gauge their effectiveness or impact on mental and physical health.

With a view to strengthening the evidence base and informing clinical practice and policy, the Canadian researchers pooled the results of the available research on the use of puberty blockers and gender affirming hormone therapy, or GAHT for short, in children and young people with gender related distress up to the age of 26.

Puberty blockers aim to delay or prevent the onset of puberty by blocking the hormones that cause the physical changes associated with male and female gender identity. Their use is currently banned in the UK.

GAHT, consisting of masculinising and feminising hormones, aims to induce and maintain the desired sex characteristics: facial hair or breast enlargement, for example.

Trump just issued an executive order defunding public schools that accommodate transgender students.

Teachers will be banned from referring to a transgender student by their desired name or pronouns. If they do not comply, their budgets can be defunded.
