Improved SpaceX EVA Suit and Dragon Adapted for EVA
September 9, 2024 by Brian Wang

https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2024/09/i ... r-eva.htmlThere have been many technological improvements and upgrades made to the Crew Dragon Resilience to be used for the Polaris Dawn first commercial EVA. They have been big improvements for the EVA suits.
These efforts will also be useful for eventual manned missions to the Moon and Mars. A key improvement is developing EVA suits that can be mass produced and easily customized for thousands of different people.
Crew Dragon Resilience improvements:
The spacecraft has been extensively modified to support the mission’s unique requirements, including the high-altitude orbit and spacewalk capabilities.

Billionaire takes off for first ever private spacewalk
2 hours ago
Billionaire Jared Isaacman has taken off in a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket for what he hopes will be the first ever privately funded spacewalk.
The mission, called Polaris Dawn, is the first of three funded by the founder of payments processing business Shift4.
He is onboard as commander alongside his close friend Scott 'Kidd' Poteet, who is a retired air force pilot, and two SpaceX engineers Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis.
The spacecraft, called Resilience, will go into an orbit that will eventually take them up to 870 miles (1,400km) above the planet. No human has been that far since Nasa's Apollo programme ended in the 1970s.
The astronauts will pass through a region of space known as the Van Allen belt, which has high levels of radiation, but the crew will be protected by the spacecraft and their newly upgraded spacesuits.

The fifth Starship flight test has been delayed to late November as the FAA needs to conduct further environmental assessments.

I think it is insane to send humans on this little chemical tincan. But hell, someone might be this crazy.

Trump Wants to Work With SpaceX to Reach Mars Before Jan 2029

Trump talks about working with SpaceX and Elon Musk to reach Mars before Jan 2029. There are two launch windows in late 2026 and in late 2028. It is possible to launch outside of launch windows by going with far less payload and far more fuel.
SpaceX Starship with refueling in orbit would be able to have 9-10 kilometer per second delta-V. This is far more than the typical 3.6 kilometers per second of small final stage launched from Earth.
This higher delta-V enables one-way travel times in the 70-90 day range. There needs to be enough fuel left for a landing. Two or more other Fuel loaded Starships can accelerate out and transfer fuel to enable the main Starship to have fuel for landing with a fast transit. There are specific calculations to determine trading payload for extra fuel and reduced travel times while leaving enough fuel for the landing.

Re: SpaceX
Imagine if he only sends one crewed starship each cycle. He'd still fulfill his promise of exponential increase, as 1^x = 1weatheriscool wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 7:37 pm

Re: SpaceX
Seriously though, aside from researchers, who would want to even go to Mars in say, 2028 or 2030, much less establish a permanent settlement? What is there to do? What purpose does anyone have for being there so early on? As many have pointed out, a permanent settlement on the Moon would serve a more practical purpose.
The rest is just him doing his "freedom is slavery" and "noooooo stop regulating us" crap

To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.

Re: SpaceX
I think humanity needs to become multi-planet, but I think his tiny chemical rocket ships isn't the best way to do it. I think we need to work on some form of shielding to protect the crew from radiation and maybe use this concept to protect any future base or city on mars or outwards. Developing this shield will allow us the ability to maintain the society on a planet such as mars is important first step towards giving us any real long term chance at such a distance society away from earth. I am not against sending a few people for the fun of it as the first step is important but I think focusing on the moon is a better idea as we could get stuff to such a colony in a few days and get them out a lot easier.
I think there we could develop what ever that is needed for further out.
I think robots controlled by a.i should use 3d printing of the top soil of the moon, mars or any other world we wish build cities on being the infrastructure.

In my opinion, humanity should prioritize AI development. Everything else comes naturally after that (and much more efficiently).

I haven't ever met a single person who said they are feeling poorly because humans haven't yet settled on Mars.
