Under-construction skyscraper breaks a North American record
By Adam Williams
July 01, 2025
A new tower is set to make a major impact on the skyline in Toronto, Canada. Named One Bloor West, the building is nearing completion and has officially surpassed 300 m (984 ft), making it the country's first supertall skyscraper.

One Bloor West is designed by high-profile firm Foster + Partners, with Core Architects, and developed by Tridel. Once complete, it's slated to become Canada's tallest skyscraper, coming in at 308.6 m (1,012 ft), compared to the country's current tallest skyscraper, the 298.1 m (978 ft) First Canadian Place completed in 1975.

However, things are rarely simple when it comes to skyscrapers and it's worth pointing out that another upcoming building, the SkyTower (also in Toronto), will be even taller at 351.9 m (1,155 ft) once that's finished, so depending on the timing of each project, One Bloor West's time at the top might be fleeting. Also, it's worth pointing out that neither will be Canada's tallest manmade structure. That honor belongs to the CN Tower, a remarkably tall 553.3 m (1,815.5 ft) communications and observation tower, again in Toronto.

New York City has gained a striking addition to its iconic skyline. Designed by renowned British firm Foster + Partners, 270 Park Avenue rises to a supertall height of 1,388 ft (423 m), making it one of the tallest new buildings in the United States.

270 Park Avenue serves as the new global headquarters of investment bank JPMorgan Chase. Its height makes it the 6th-tallest skyscraper in NYC and the 8th-tallest overall in the United States, though in the global rankings it sits at 35th.

^ I did some digging, and this video doesn't seem to represent the actual project, although the proposal is still for a "stadium in the sky" in time for the World Cup of 2034. Hopefully we get some official renders soon, as opposed to these fake ones.

Tallest skyscraper outside London approved in £1bn project

Thursday 06 November 2025 2:49 pm

A £1bn project which will see the tallest UK skyscraper outside of London constructed in Greater Manchester has been approved.

Developer Henley Investment Management has secured permission from Salford City Council for its scheme at Regent Retail Park in Ordsall Lane.

The proposals include a 78-storey tower which, at 895ft (272m) tall, will be the third-largest skyscraper in the UK, taking the spot from One Canada Square in London’s Canary Wharf.

The project will also include 3,300 homes created across 10 new buildings.

[...]

The 78-storey tower will the third tallest in the country, behind the Shard and 22 Bishopgate in London.

Under-construction skyscraper smashes North American height record
By Adam Williams
November 25, 2025
A new residential skyscraper has set a North American record, becoming the tallest building in Canada – and it's not even finished yet. Named the Pinnacle SkyTower, it will rise to an impressive supertall height of 351.85 m (1,154 ft) in Toronto once complete.
Image
Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the skyscraper currently sits at 100 floors and will eventually reach 106. The height milestone surpasses the recent One Bloor West tower, by Foster and Partners, which held the "Canada's tallest building" bragging rights for just a few short months.

Of course, the CN Tower looms even larger nearby, though that's classified as a structure, not a building, so it doesn't count. To put the new skyscraper's height into perspective, it's significantly taller than any building in Western Europe, whereas if it were located in the USA it would sit at a not-too-shabby 12th tallest in the official height rankings.

JP Morgan revives £3 billion skyscraper plan for Canary Wharf after 20 years on ice

27th November 2025

One of Canary Wharf’s largest undeveloped plots is finally set to be built on, with JPMorganChase confirming plans for a new £3 billion skyscraper — two decades after the site was first earmarked for development.

The Riverside site, on the edge of the Thames, was bought by JP Morgan in 2008 for a new headquarters, but the banking crisis halted progress almost immediately. They later moved into Lehman Brothers’ former London head office instead.

Back at the Riverside site, foundations were laid, and the site was raised to ground level ahead of a potential sale, but in 2015, the bank formally paused the project, leaving the land untouched for nearly a decade.

Now the bank says construction will restart, but not on the previously approved Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners scheme.

Instead, Foster + Partners has been commissioned to deliver an entirely new design. While the final appearance is still to come, JPMorganChase says the tower will accommodate around 12,000 staff and act as its main UK headquarters and its largest base in the EMEA region.

Rising high into Saudi sky: World's new tallest skyscraper progresses
By Adam Williams
November 28, 2025

https://newatlas.com/architecture/jec-t ... er-update/
Following a report at the start of this year, more details have been revealed on what is arguably the world's most ambitious architecture project: the mind-bogglingly tall JEC Tower, which is currently rising in Saudi Arabia.

Previously known as both the Kingdom Tower and Jeddah Tower, the JEC Tower (Jeddah Economic Company Tower) is currently being built in the Saudi port city of Jeddah and is led by Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud.

The megatall's final height has not yet been made public, however architect AS+GG (Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill) has reconfirmed that it will exceed 1 km (0.62 miles). This will make it significantly taller than the current world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. It would also make it almost twice the height of the USA's tallest skyscraper, the One World Trade Center, and over three times the height of Western Europe's tallest skyscraper, the Shard.

World's new tallest building nears major construction milestone
By Adam Williams
January 18, 2026
https://newatlas.com/architecture/jec-t ... 26-update/
Construction on what will be the world's tallest skyscraper is rapidly approaching a major milestone. Saudi Arabia's JEC Tower is racing towards 100 floors, making it a step closer to achieving its projected 2028 completion date.

Back in November of last year, we reported on the JEC Tower reaching 69 floors. Engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti confirmed in late December that the building has surpassed 80 floors and, according to unconfirmed reports by locals, it has already hit 84 floors. If construction continues at this rapid pace, it should hit 100 floors in the coming weeks, joining the roughly 25 or so buildings worldwide to reach that mark.

However, it still has a way to go. Architects Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill (AS+GG), recently said that the building will consist of at least 157 floors and will exceed a height of 1 km (0.62 miles) in the Saudi port city of Jeddah, though the ultimate exact height hasn't yet been disclosed. This will make it a lot taller than the current world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa and almost twice the height of the USA's tallest skyscraper, the One World Trade Center.

Its interior will boast the world's highest observation point, as well as a luxury hotel, office space, and palatial apartments. Two-story elevators will zoom people around at speeds of 10 m (30 ft) per second, which sounds like it's approaching thrill ride territory, but the Shanghai Tower's elevators are actually around double that speed.

Here’s what the Square Mile skyline will look like in six years

Thursday 19 February 2026

The City of London Corporation has revealed a new CGI skyline showcasing the Square Mile skyscrapers set to be completed in the next six years.

The computer-generated images were released to mark a record set of planning permission deals in 2025, which have included the decision to green-light what will be the City’s tallest building, 1 Undershaft.

Unveiling the skyline plans Tom Sleigh, the City’s planning and transportation chairman, hailed an 84 per cent increase in planning application decisions in January, year-on-year.

Sleigh said the corporation, which acts as the local authority in Britain’s financial district, approved four major building schemes in the first few weeks of the year.

He said: “As we head to MIPIM [a property conference in France], our message to global investors is clear: the City of London is open, confident and building at scale, offering the certainty and long term vision that international capital looks for.”

JPMorgan to build Canary Wharf’s tallest tower after City airport approval

JPMorgan Chase has won approval to build one of the tallest office towers in Europe following discussions over height restrictions stemming from its proximity to London City Airport. The Wall Street bank had been in talks with airport officials over potential height constraints on its new Canary Wharf development, but the two sides reached an agreement in February for the tower to stand at 265 metres, people familiar with the matter told the FT. That means JPMorgan’s new UK headquarters will overtake One Canada Square as Canary Wharf’s tallest building, which at 235 metres has held that crown for more than three decades.

Plans for Australia's first Trump Tower scrapped due to 'toxic' brand, developer says

Plans for a A$1.5bn ($1.1bn; £802m) Trump Tower in Queensland have been scrapped with an Australian developer blaming the "toxic" Trump brand and the Iran war for the project's demise.

It comes just three months after the deal was announced, with claims that the 91-storey luxury hotel on the Gold Coast would be Australia's tallest building, measuring 335 metres (1,100 ft) high, taller than the Shard in London.

Details about the project have been deleted from the Trump Organization's website with a spokesperson saying the developer had not met obligations.

Altus Property Group denied those claims and maintained the project would continue with other luxury brands as options.

"Let's just say that with the Iran war and everything else, the Trump brand was increasingly toxic in Australia," David Young, chief executive of Altus Property group, said in a statement.
