Wasn't sure where the best place to put this is, hope this is the right spot. Mostly just love the motorcycle they introduce in the first section of the video, although I don't expect it'll ever be made available.

Biden Administration to Lend $6 Billion for Rivian E.V. Factory

The financing for a factory in Georgia is part of a last-minute effort to establish climate policies before President-elect Donald J. Trump takes office.

Updated Nov. 26, 2024, 8:37 a.m. ET

The Biden administration said on Monday that it would lend $6 billion to help Rivian build an electric car factory in Georgia, part of an effort to lock in Democratic climate policies before President-elect Donald J. Trump takes office.

Rivian, a relatively new company that makes only electric vehicles, plans to produce sport utility vehicles and hatchbacks at the factory, in Social Circle, Ga., near Atlanta.

The loan agreement will be binding once the Department of Energy and Rivian sign a contract, which is expected to take place before Mr. Trump’s inauguration in January.

“Rivian will work closely with D.O.E. to close the loan quickly,” the company said in a statement.

The project is in a congressional district represented by a Republican, highlighting how much Biden administration clean energy policies have benefited regions where most voters back conservative politicians, including Mr. Trump.

Stellantis and Samsung Will Get $7 Billion to Build Battery Factories

The loan, from the Biden administration, was designed to withstand Republican attacks and will be used to make electric-car batteries in Indiana.

Dec. 2, 2024

The Biden administration expanded its efforts to lock in its climate policies on Monday, saying that it would lend almost $7 billion to help build battery factories in Indiana to supply vehicles made by Stellantis, the owner of Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Ram.

The financing, which was the second multibillion-dollar loan related to electric-vehicle manufacturing in a week, is part of the administration’s efforts to create domestic supplies of batteries.

President-elect Donald J. Trump has vowed to reverse Biden administration policies aimed at promoting electric-vehicle manufacturing. Transportation is the biggest source of greenhouse gases in the United States.

[...]

The loan announced on Monday, for $6.85 billion not including interest, will be used to finance two battery plants in Kokomo, Ind., that are being built by StarPlus Energy, a joint venture between Stellantis and Samsung SDI, a South Korean company.

The factories will employ 2,800 people once they are up and running and 3,200 workers during construction. The plants will be capable of making batteries for 670,000 vehicles a year, the Department of Energy said.

Compact electric truck with full-size bed gets $41,500 starting price
By Paul Ridden
December 03, 2024
Last year, EV startup Telo launched a compact truck that has the same footprint as a Mini Cooper but boasts a cargo bed that challenges the big boys. At that time, the Telo Truck was listed at a buck under $50k, but the company has now revealed a much lower starting price.

At launch in June 2023, the Telo Truck – which was designed in collaboration with Yves Béhar and Fuseproject – grabbed headlines in the global motoring press by boasting "the storage capacity and power of a traditional truck" but in a much smaller package.

The vehicle measures just 152 inches (3.86 m) from nose to tail, yet its truck bed stretches 60 inches in length (1.52 m). If that's not enough to meet your hauling needs, a configurable mid-partition can extend its capabilities to accommodate 8x4 ply sheets or full-size surfboards. And the company cooked more storage in the side for adventure essentials or luggage.

Sony-Honda’s 275-mile electric sedan set to launch in US
By Utkarsh Sood
December 13, 2024
Two of Japan’s biggest companies came together some two and a half years back to develop an electric vehicle. Sony Honda Mobility has now unveiled its first model, a four-door fastback saloon that's packed with AI and even a computer graphics game engine.

First unveiled as a prototype sedan at CES 2023, Sony Honda Mobility chief executive Yasuhide Mizuno introduced the world to the Afeela brand, saying that it represented “a new relationship between people and mobility.”

This is much more than a Honda vehicle development project with minor input from Sony. In fact, it's a 50/50 collaboration that's covered in both of the company's fingerprints. So, it goes without saying that the car will be loaded with tech.

Tesla V4 Cabinet Solves Charging for Semi and Fast Charging Cybertruck

December 12, 2024 by Brian Wang
Today, Tesla has the V4 Cabinet which solves fast 500kW for cars and 1.2MW for Semi. This is HUGE. It solves getting Tesla Semi charging out to thousands of locations quickly. This is needed so that 50,000 Semi per year will be able charge and enable nationwide electric trucking.

Tesla Supercharging first opening in 2012 started with charging speeds of just 90kW. Tesla engineering teams have continuously been upgrading our Supercharger equipment.

In 2023, they launched the V4 Post, which made improvements to the charging experience for all EVs.

Trump Will Reportedly Block the US Government and Military From Buying EVs

Dec 17, 2024

The incoming Trump administration has even more plans to delay EV adoption than previously thought. According to Reuters, which has seen transition team documents, the Trump team wants to abolish EV subsidies, claw back federal funding meant for EV charging infrastructure, block EV battery imports on national security grounds, and prevent the federal government and the US military from purchasing more EVs.

Honda is reviving its iconic Prelude as a hybrid coupe for 2025
By Abhimanyu Ghoshal
December 21, 2024
After revealing a show-stopping concept version last year, Honda has announced it'll launch the 6th generation of its legendary Prelude sports coupe in late 2025.

That nameplate has stood for a fun time behind the wheel for driving enthusiasts since the original Prelude debuted in 1978.

Honda timed this announcement to coincide with its 25th year in the business of making hybrid vehicles. When the Honda Insight arrived on US shores in 1999, it was the first hybrid available in North America, and predated the ultra-popular Toyota Prius by seven months. This silver jubilee is a big deal indeed: the Prelude will also get a hybrid powertrain.

China’s EV sales set to overtake traditional cars years ahead of west

Volumes forecast to rise 20% next year, smashing international projections and Beijing’s official targets

Edward White in Shanghai and Kana Inagaki
in London yesterday

Electric vehicles are expected to outsell cars with internal combustion engines in China for the first time next year, in a historic inflection point that puts the world’s biggest car market years ahead of western rivals.

China is set to smash international forecasts and Beijing’s official targets with domestic EV sales — including pure battery and plug-in hybrids — growing about 20 per cent year on year to more than 12mn cars in 2025, according to the latest estimates supplied to the Financial Times by four investment banks and research groups. The figure would be more than double the 5.9mn sold in 2022.

At the same time, sales of traditionally powered cars are expected to fall by more than 10 per cent next year to less than 11mn, reflecting a near 30 per cent plunge from 14.8mn in 2022.

Q: Does China subsidize the purchase of electric vehicles?

Bing Copilot: Yes, China has historically provided subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs). However, as of the end of 2022, the direct purchase subsidies for consumers were phased out1. The government had been offering subsidies for EV consumers for several years, with a maximum subsidy of 12,600 yuan per battery electric vehicle (BEV) and 4,800 yuan for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).

While direct purchase subsidies have ended, China continues to support the EV sector through other means, such as tax exemptions and infrastructural support. The goal is to maintain the growth of the EV market and reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector(1).

Would you like to know more about China's EV policies or the global electric vehicle market?

Tesla Cybertruck Sales are Disastrous
by Fred Lambert
January 2, 2026

Introduction:
(electrek) Tesla confirmed that Cybertruck sales are disastrous in the release of its quarterly results. Sales of the controversial electric pickup truck are stalling a year into the production ramp.

Considering Tesla started production just over a year ago, it’s still early in the Cybertruck program. Some say it’s too early to say if it will be a success, but there’s room to be concerned that it isn’t and won’t be.

Tesla claimed to have over 1 million reservations for the truck, but we always doubted their buying commitment because Tesla had lowered the reservation deposit to just $100 for the new program.

Furthermore, the production version of the truck was more expensive and had less range than what Tesla originally announced.

Those issues compounded into Tesla delivering an estimated ~40,000 Cybertrucks before opening orders beyond the reservation program.

Solar EV gets more slippery for production-intent Las Vegas debut
By Paul Ridden
January 06, 2025
https://newatlas.com/automotive/aptera- ... -ces-2025/
The world's largest consumer tech show kicks off this week, and San Diego's storied e-mobility startup Aptera is driving into CES 2025 for the first public showing of its production-intent solar electric vehicle, which has just been aero tweaked with help from Pininfarina.

Aptera has been promising to revolutionize electric mobility for a few years now, and has navigated a number of stops and starts along the way. Last November, the company pushed out a video demonstrating a low-speed test of its production-intent solar electric vehicle.

That test mule lacked body panels, windows, and other components – including the solar panels – but a completed three-wheeler has made its way to the Las Vegas Convention Center for its public debut this week, after a short detour to Italy.
