Re: Autonomous Vehicles News & Discussions
I find the main issue with autonomous vehicles is that it is much harder for a passenger to defend themselves if they came under attack. Tesla's safety record isn't particularly rosy either.

Ford has an AI assistant and new hands-free BlueCruise tech on the way

Ford is developing an AI assistant that will debut in the company’s smartphone app, before expanding to its vehicles in 2027, the company announced Wednesday at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show. The company also teased a next-generation of its BlueCruise advanced driver assistance system that is both cheaper to make and more capable — ultimately leading to eyes-off driving in 2028.
Wednesday’s announcement was one of the only ones to come from a major automaker at CES, marking a sharp turnaround from the late 2010s when they dominated the show. And it wasn’t made at a flashy keynote event; rather, Ford discussed the news at a speaker session called “Great Minds” that was meant to “explore the intersection of technology and humanity.”
Ford says it digital assistant is hosted by Google Cloud and will be built using off-the-shelf LLMs, and the company is giving it deep access to vehicle-specific information. That means the assistant can answer high-level questions like “how many bags of mulch can my truck bed support?” But it also means owners will be able to ask for granular, real-time information like oil life.

My 90 year old Grandmother doesn't need assisted living. She's completely independent! We just hire a school of fully trained nurses to follow her around 24 hour a days to make sure that she doesn't topple over and hurt herself, or starve because she's no long capable of cooking, or burn the house down because she tries to warm up the jerry can on the gas stove so her hands don't freeze to it. We call Fully Unassisted living (assisted).

Tesla to End FSD (Supervised) One-Time Purchase Option, Goes Subscription-Only

The laws an ass! It would be nice if they'd just allow driverless cars for all!

https://www.extremetech.com/cars/tesla- ... bscriptionTesla CEO Elon Musk announced on X Wednesday that Tesla will no longer sell its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software via one $8,000 purchase. After Feb. 14, Tesla drivers will only be able to purchase FSD (Supervised) by subscribing for $99 per month.
Analysts say the recurring revenue model reduces Tesla's legal liability amid ongoing NHTSA investigations and the brand's Robotaxi ramp-up. Federal regulators have documented more than 50 incidents in which FSD-equipped Teslas ran red lights or crossed into oncoming traffic. Recently, Musk also made a controversial claim that Tesla's FSD update allows drivers to text while on the road, despite state laws prohibiting hands-on phone use while driving.

https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2026/01/b ... otaxi.htmlJust started Tesla Robotaxi drives in Austin with no safety monitor in the car.
Congrats to the @Tesla_AI
team!
If you’re interested in solving real-world AI, which is likely to lead to AGI imo, join Tesla AI. Solving real-world AI for Optimus will be 100X harder than cars.
