Ram 1500 REV Set to Break Electric Pickup Range Record
The pickup's optional 229 kWh battery upgrade boasts an estimated 500-mile range.
By Adrianna Nine April 10, 2023

Automaker conglomerate Stellantis officially unveiled the Dodge Ram 1500 REV Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show. After a few months of computer-generated teasers, we now know precisely what the all-electric pickup will look like—and how powerful its battery options will be.

Stellantis says the 2025 Ram 1500 REV will topple current electric pickup range records with a 500-mile range. While the standard version of the vehicle will include a 168 kWh battery lasting 350 miles, the premium 229 kWh option will allegedly pack enough punch to get you from San Diego to San Francisco on a single charge (or, if you’re in Europe, complete the popular North Coast 500 scenic drive).

Only 10 Electric Vehicles Qualify for Full $7,500 US Tax Credit
Source: Bloomberg
Only 10 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will qualify for $7,500 federal tax credits in the US after stricter battery-sourcing rules take effect and render most plug-in models ineligible.

General Motors Co., Tesla Inc. and Ford Motor Co. all have at least one EV that will qualify, while Ford and Stellantis NV each have one eligible plug-in hybrid model. No other automakers will have a vehicle for sale that fully meets the criteria that were finalized last month and will kick in on Tuesday, according to the Treasury Department.

The requirements included in the Democrats’ marquee climate law — the Inflation Reduction Act — will roughly halve the number of vehicles that can receive the full tax credit relative to how many were eligible during the first few months of the year, when Treasury was finalizing its guidance for meeting the rules. Seven additional vehicles made by Tesla, Ford and Stellantis will qualify for half credits, meaning $3,750 will be available to eligible consumers.

The list released Monday makes official what many manufacturers feared: that consumers will miss out on federal incentives for their EVs because not enough of their battery components or raw materials are sourced from North America or countries with US free-trade agreements.

The Polestar 4 EV Will Have Tons of Power, No Rear Window
Polestar's fourth design is a compact crossover SUV with no rear window.

Tesla might be the biggest name in high-performance electric vehicles, but it's not the only company competing in this space. There's also Polestar, which has just announced the new Polestar 4 crossover SUV. It packs a big battery with fast charging, a raft of sensors even more advanced than Teslas, and no rear window. Yes, really.

As the name implies, this is Polestar's fourth vehicle design. This is the company's second SUV after the larger Polestar 3. The 4 is closer in size to the Polestar 2 sedan, but it has higher clearance and drivetrain features similar to the 3. Inside, the Polestar 4 sports a 102kWh battery with an estimated range of 300 miles. When it's time to recharge, the Polestar 4 supports 200kW DC fast charging. That's much faster than EVs from Ford and Nissan, but some Tesla vehicles can hit 250kW on Superchargers.

Tesla Quarter 1 Income Falls 24% as Electric Vehicle Price Cuts Squeeze Profits
by Kirsten Korosec and Rebecca Bellan
April 19, 2023

Introduction:
(TechCrunch) Tesla reported Wednesday net income of $2.51 billion in the first quarter, a 24% drop from the same period last year as the company’s EV price-cutting strategy cut into profits.

Tesla has repeatedly reduced the price of its four EVs — the Model S, Model X, Model Y and Model 3 — in the United States as well as Europe and China. That strategy has helped boost sales with revenue in the first quarter reaching $23.3 billion, a 24% pop from the same period last year.

But it has also squeezed the automaker’s traditionally robust automotive gross margins. At the same time, Tesla’s operating expenses have remained mostly flat (falling just 1% from Q1 in 2022) and its capital expenditures have increased. The company reported that it spent $2 billion in capital expenditures in the first quarter, a 17% increase from the same quarter last year.

Meanwhile, its operating margin — one measure of profitability and an area where Tesla has been an industry leader — fell from 19.2% in the first quarter of 2022 to 11.4 in this period.

Tesla shares fell 4% in after-hours trading.

GM to end production of electric Chevy Bolt, its first mass-market EV, later this year

Source: CNBC
DETROIT - General Motors plans to end production of its electric Chevrolet Bolt models by the end of this year, CEO Mary Barra told investors Tuesday when discussing the company's first-quarter earnings.

The Chevy Bolt EV and EUV, a larger version of the car, make up the vast majority of the company's electric vehicle sales to date. However, the battery cells in the cars are an older design and chemistry than the automaker's newer vehicles such as the GMC Hummer and Cadillac Lyriq, which utilize GM's Ultium architecture. Barra said a suburban Detroit plant that has produced Bolt models since 2016 will be retooled in preparation for production of electric trucks scheduled for next year.

There's irony in the timing of the Bolt getting axed. It comes amid record production and sales of the vehicle for mass-market consumers, which was GM's initial goal. The company plans to produce more than 70,000 of the vehicles this year, as it targets to sell more than 400,000 EVs from early 2022 through mid-next year in North America.

GM pushed the Bolt out ahead of the Tesla Model 3 in 2016. The two were considered to be the first long-range EVs designed for mainstream drivers, starting at around $35,000. But Bolt sales never caught on as well as many executives hoped, as EV sales overall remained miniscule outside of Tesla. The Bolt also suffered a major setback more recently, as GM recalled all of the Bolts ever produced due to a supplier-related battery issue that caused several fires.

Chevy Equinox EV 1LT Replaces the Chevy Bolt
April 25, 2023 by Brian Wang
https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2023/04/c ... -bolt.html
The Chevy Equinox EV will replace the Chevy Bolt as the entry-level EV model.

The Equinox EV will have the 1LT model with a starting price of around $30,0001. The Equinox EV is GMs answer for the critical compact SUV segment. It rounds out an electrified portfolio that covers major segments, including full-size trucks (Silverado EV), midsize SUVs (Blazer EV) and compact SUVs (Bolt EV and Bolt EUV). It will also be available with up to an available GM-estimated 300 miles of range on a full charge but with 250 miles of starting range.

The Equinox will use GM’s Ultium battery and should launch in the autumn of 2023.
