The Loop (Elon Musk Project)

Post by Yuli Ban »

Boring Company’s Las Vegas Loop with Tesla cars goes into operation, and it is about to expand to the Strip and beyond
The Boring Company’s Las Vegas Loop with Tesla vehicles has officially gone into operations this week, and it is already preparing to expand to the Strip and beyond.

The Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, the Boring Company’s first full-scale loop project, has now entered operations, and it is available to the public.

Elon Musk’s startup had a small test tunnel in Los Angeles for years, but this is the first full-scale Loop commercial “Loop'” project in operation today.

It consists of 1.5 miles of tunnels with three stations. Tesla vehicles are transporting visitors to their end destination through the tunnels – avoiding surface traffic.

Yesterday was the first official day of operations – starting with the World of Concrete conference at the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop:
And remember my friend, future events such as these will affect you in the future

The Boring Company will dig a 68-mile tunnel network under Las Vegas
Elon Musk's tunneling company has permission to significantly expand its operations under the city of Las Vegas. Last month, the Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously to approve the Boring Company's plan to dig more tunnels under the city, following in the steps of Clark County, which in May gave a similar thumbs-up to the tunneling concern. The company's plan calls for 68 miles of tunnels and 81 stations, served by a fleet of Tesla electric vehicles, each able to carry three passengers at a time.

Despite the unanimous approval, Mayor Carolyn Goldman had a litany of concerns, including safety, low throughput of passengers, and a lack of accessibility. However, she said that "hotels are begging for transportation options."

The Boring Company owes its origin to a traffic jam that ensnared Musk in 2016. Incensed by having to sit behind other drivers, the billionaire decided the solution should be a network of private tunnels under cities, perhaps taking inspiration from Mad Magazine or the Usborne Book of the Future.

As is often the case, Musk's plans were fanciful, verging on the outlandish. The tunnels were originally planned to carry high-speed magnetically levitating trains in near-vacuum, a concept called the Hyperloop. In 2017, Musk even claimed that he had government approval to dig a tunnel between Washington, DC, and New York City and that the journey would take just 29 minutes.

Boring Company Speeds Up Tunneling. Vegas Loop Tunnels Could Finish in 2025
March 6, 2024 by Brian Wang
The Boring Company is deploying the PruFrock 3 tunneling machine at Tesla Gigatexas. The PruFrock 3 machine will be able to dig continuously. It will only need to stop to change out teeth and other parts as they wear out. The Boring Revolution youtube has analyzed the actual tunneling rates on actual real world projects and the older Boring Company machines were getting about 46 meters per day. He now believes the new machine will be able to achieve 80-100 meters per day. This could be an improved assessment of capabilities estimated by Boring Revolution 8 months ago.

The Boring Company states that Prufrock 2 has the potential to dig up to 1,600 meters (1 mile) per week. The tunneling company aims to increase Prufrock 2’s performance by 7-fold with Prufrock 3. The tunneling goals of Boring Company are for hypothetical perfect conditions and softer soils that would permit easier operations.
