Computer reconstruction of crime scenes

Post by RupertR »

Well, technically it's not a far future, in some cases it's like present, as I was searching some info about digitizing real world. All this stuff about metaverse, it has been talked a lot (it's a theme for another post), but found out some cases where 3d digitizing machines (3d scanners) were used to capture a crime scene, or a human body, so people then are able to inspect it in the lab even long time afterwards. I especially think about crime scenes as we don't have all time in the world to collect all the data. We collect samples, take photos, make measurements, question witnesses. And, the weak point that all photos and measurements doesn't provide such flexibility you get if you have a full 3d model of the whole scene, so you can get back to this data anytime. I think it ease the whole process. You come to the scene, you digitize everything without moving or touching anything, and then you can be free to research for any clues while you still have the original placement in your computer. And it can be send to a different specialist who can be thousand miles away. I think this is a future.
