At some point, a major step change will also happen when AI is capable of generating new major scientific breakthroughs on its own -- more akin to Einstein coming up with relativity to explain known data than akin to predicting the shape of proteins.
Imagine hundreds of AIs across many countries creating breakthroughs on the level of Einstein's theory of relativity or even more impactful in different fields on a daily basis.

And then combine that with this:
A massive change will come as the share of AI improvement caused by AI's own work surpasses the share caused by human work, possibly later this decade.
Which will just exponentially accelerate the contributions to the sciences by those Einstein-level AIs. We get Super Einsteins which is just the beginning of their evolution that will go on for many thousands years.

It is going to be unimaginably alien to us.
To know is essentially the same as not knowing. The only thing that occurs is the rearrangement of atoms in your brain.
