What is the status of magnetically-levitated trains and hyperloop?

Post by Lilymoon »

Are there any businesses or governments around the world building magnetically-levitated trains or hyperloop? It seems most of the all the magnetically-levitated trains are in Japan and China.

What does the time line here say about magnetically-levitated trains or hyperloop? Why such delay, did they run into engineering problems with the hyperloop?

Is hyperloop still 5 or 10 years out or much sooner?

Maglev costs significantly more than standard high speed rail. California's high speed rail project (which is currently under construction) is probably going to cost over 100 billion dollars in total. If it was a maglev project instead, it would cost way more than that, and thus probably would never be approved.

The hyperloop is a complete impracticality, and is a scam in my opinion. There will never be a working hyperloop line. Thunderf00t on YouTube makes great videos addressing all of the issues with the hyperloop. (Also, I prefer the term "vactrain" over Elon Musk's renaming of the concept to "hyperloop".)

Global economy doubles in product every 15-20 years. Computer performance at a constant price doubles nowadays every 4 years on average. Livestock-as-food will globally stop being a thing by ~2050 (precision fermentation and more). Human stupidity, pride and depravity are the biggest problems of our world.
