Come on, now! The world is not "dystopian" because of that. It seems worse than it did in the past because the news media and social media allow us to be hyper-aware of the bad things that have always existed.

Also, with respect to the Supreme Court, the "analysis" stories in the news that try to predict how the rulings will go based on the Justices' comments are worthless. Wait for the official ruling to come out.

And remember, abortion is the destruction of human lives, so to countless Americans, the fact that we allow it at all is "dystopian."

Here's a clip from the Lex Fridman interview with computer scientist Peter Wang. It's only 8 minutes long, so I recommend watching it all, but focus on the "dystopian" part that begins at 4:30.



Wang's description chills me because it sounds very plausible, if you assume the world is headed for a major decline. Thanks to global warming combined with other factors (my top picks would be widespread technological unemployment, overpopulation, and mass deaths caused by military drones or bioweapons), poor countries and tropical countries could experience sudden and catastrophic "collapses," while in rich and temperate countries, the decline will be more gradual and there will be "narrative management," with the middle classes used to insulate the rich and powerful from the angry and desperate poor. Technology-induced social alienation will also prove very destructive in ways we can't predict at present.

The scenario scares me because I already see outlines of it now.

Unskippable ads are annoying, right? My fellow British YouTube watchers have probably heard enough of the Just Eat ads to last a lifetime. But at least you don't actually have to pay attention to them, right?

Well, thanks to MoviePass rearing its controversial head once more, we might not be able to say that for much longer. The MoviePass 2.0 app is set to launch this summer, and will sustain itself using microcurrency and ads. However, unlike ads on any other platform, you will be forced to actually watch them, as they'll only play when your eyes are looking at the screen.
