In fact, I'd say we've at least hit a lot of the tech we were supposed to by now, even if the timeline was off.

It took all of history to until 2022 for the world to install 1 TW of solar.
Then it took 2 years until 2024 for the second.

This is why the PRC is better-equipped to harness the benefits of this tech, at least for now. They are at least operating under the assumption that AI is going to be a thing and designing their plans around that, while the US has failed to harness public skepticism for the purposes of pushing needed and proportionate regulation, with discourse instead revolving around extreme binaries of "ban it because images or water or something" and "accelerate brrrrr murica first"
