Kind of amazing to look back on the first few pages of this thread (which began in 2021), and see how things have improved since then. We have basically crossed the Uncanny Valley into a whole new reality.

Late 2025/early 2026 AI is great. Things really picked up in the second half of last year. Unfortunately we still have some time remaining of midwits talking about how dumb AI is while GPT-5 writes things more intelligent, insightful, and original to me every single day than those same people have at any time in their entire life.

Have a 28 minute homebrew anime. Quality levels fluctuate (it's created using a myriad of different AIs, some better than others), but still really damned impressive that a single person can make their own half hour anime and speaks very well for what 2026 will bring us when the tech becomes dramatically superior to its 2025 version.

I find that dumb people and smart people shit on AI very differently. The dumber types are a lot more sweeping and tribalistic in their denigration of it, while the smarter people are capable of recognizing where AI shines while still making fun of it for screwing up certain things; even then, they recognize that performance in these areas is likely to continue improving.

Definitely true. Dumber people have less specific and nuanced, more regurgitated opinions for everything they hate, and we hate a lot of things because we're a hateful species. Always have been. The AI hate bandwagon was just hate bandwagon #42,000,000 that's occurred during my lifetime.
