It would be so much more convincing if UFO hotspots were over these sparse, vacant parts of the Earth like rural Africa, western China, Siberia, and the Outback. Those are the ones that get my mind going more. UFO sightings from rural, non-American parts of the Earth (and over the open ocean) before the 1950s are the really fun ones.
I know I mentioned somewhere before that people vastly overestimate their ability to identify something, partially due to the fact we base our perceptions on what we've seen before. If a plane flying low in the sky doesn't look like the profile of a plane at all times, it's suddenly a UFO and in comes the "I know what I saw, it's a coverup."
And Americans are WAY too quick to jump to "UFO, aliens!" at literally anything flying in the sky. Even if it IS a plane and is clearly a plane, Americans are more likely to say "it's a UFO using camouflage."
