Ancient Mediterranean Appreciation Thread

Here's a thread to appreciate the ancient Hellenistic societies on the Greek peninsula and all they accomplished— which was a lot, at very early points in human history to be doing these things!
By extension, Rome and Egypt ought to be included. It could be its own thread, but these societies were so intrinsically tied together that it'd feel wrong to not dedicate this thread to them.
I particularly love how realistic Roman portraits were. We often think that Western artwork from before the Renaissance era was all in the iconographic Byzantine style, but it wasn't called the Renaissance for nothing.
