WW2 in real time 29/09/21-1/10/27

Post by Ozzie guy »

If WW2 started today on the 29/09/21 it would end on 1/10/27 which is getting pretty darn close to Jan first 2030 which by then Human level AGI must exist according to Ray Kurzweil.

I mentioned elsewhere on the forum it would be quite fun going through the events of WW2 in real time and roleplaying a bit with other users as if we lived during this era and that it would also eat up a lot of time towards that Kurzweil date as an adventure I am committed to finish.

A youtuber is making a video for every week of the war which is perfect for this game. I presume he is a bread and butter democrat or republican which may effect his retelling of events. Feel free to post any other historical things for the date we are up to in the war.

I am busy right now but in an hour or so I will watch this first week share my thoughts and maybe pretend I am living in the period.

Looks like Germany has invaded Poland, I suppose Poland could hold Germany for a month or two. Are we headed for a new Great war :( ? It was my understanding that the UK and France had a defence pact with Poland.

I don't want to get involved in this mess this is why I wanted Australia to leave the British Empire. I guess though it is important to defeat those psychopaths in Germany.

At the very least Japan is getting encircled and defeated in Mongolia by the Soviets which may reduce world tension a bit.

Very interesting thread. I will be following it closely, plenty of time for things to go on.

Might also join in the roleplay as the Brazilian state later on. =)
And, as always, bye bye.

The United States has declared itself neutral (see video). The Soviet Union seems happy with this border adjustment, given that they received a part of eastern Poland in the process. Hitler may have "assigned to himself the task of liquidating communism" but this was all probably just for domestic consumption. After all, why have the Soviets entered into a pact with Germany if they are such mortal enemies?

At any rate, the adoption of the Hitler-Stalin pact has apparently resulted in the Nazis abandoning their chief slogan against Bolshevism. The Communists, for their part, are embracing a pacifism which they had previously denounced as petty bourgeois.

Edit: Deletion of references to things "settling down a bit" as Britain and France declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939.

In France:
The Popular Front dissolved itself in autumn 1938, confronted by internal dissensions related to the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), opposition of the right-wing, and the persistent effects of the Great Depression.

After one year of major activity, it lost its spirit by June 1937 and could only temporize as the European crisis worsened. The Socialists were forced out; only the Radical-Socialists and smaller left-republican parties were left. It failed to live up to the expectations of the left. The workers obtained major new rights, but their 48 percent increase in wages was offset by a 46 percent rise in prices. Unemployment remained high, and overall industrial production was stagnant. Industry had great difficulty adjusting to the imposition of a 40-hour workweek, which caused serious disruptions while France was desperately trying to catch up with Germany in military production. France joined other nations and bitterly disappointed many French leftists in refusing to help the Spanish Republicans in the Spanish Civil War, partly because the right threatened another civil war in France itself.
