'Inundated': Flooding swamps Louisiana, south-central US; rainfall in Lake Charles may be a 100-year event
Flood watches and warnings remained in effect Tuesday for portions of the south-central USA after a day of torrential rain that left houses and streets flooded and cars stranded.

The National Weather Service said more than 30 million people are threatened by flooding this week across parts of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas, an event Accuweather called "historic."

“Rounds of rain and thunderstorms have inundated much of the south-central U.S. since Monday, especially for many in Texas and Louisiana, and relief is not expected until late this week," AccuWeather meteorologist Adam Sadvary said.

Torrential hailstones in London yesterday, and again today. And it's nearly June.

This whole Spring period has been remarkably cold.

Wonder if it's climate/Arctic-related...?

2021 will be another busy year for the Atlantic hurricane season
https://www.sciencenews.org/article/202 ... antic-noaa
The record-breaking 2020 Atlantic hurricane season is a tough act to follow. But U.S. Atlantic coast residents shouldn’t let their guard down — 2021 will still be an active year for storms, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in a May 20 press conference.

NOAA’s forecast for the Atlantic hurricane season, which lasts from June 1 through November 30, predicts 13 to 20 named storms, with six to 10 of those developing into hurricanes, and three to five into major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher. By comparison, 2020 racked up 31 tropical and sub-tropical cyclones (SN: 11/10/20).

UK weather forecast: Bank holiday to bring hottest day of the year so far
4 hours ago

The bank holiday weekend is set to bring the hottest day of the year so far, as the UK waves goodbye to the fourth wettest May on record.

The Met Office forecasts that the long-awaited heat will be distributed across all four nations on Monday –the eve of meteorological summer.

Temperatures are set to sit in their low 20s across most parts of the UK, “even in northern Scotland”, according to Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell.

After weeks stuck indoors due to a combination of coronavirus restrictions and heavy downpours, Britons have flocked to parks, beaches and pub gardens this weekend in heat nearly unparalleled so far this year.

The warmest day of the year so far in 2021 was 30 March – when the mercury hit 24.3C at Kew Gardens in London.

Hundreds evacuated, some by chopper, from New Zealand floods
Source: AP

By NICK PERRY
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Several hundred people in New Zealand were evacuated from their homes Monday with some recounting dramatic helicopter rescues as heavy rain caused widespread flooding in the Canterbury region.

Authorities declared a state of emergency after some places received as much as 40 centimeters (16 inches) of rain over the weekend and into Monday. Forecasters warned of possible heavy rain through Monday evening before conditions improved.

The military helped evacuate more than 50 people including several overnight in an NH-90 military helicopter.

One man was clinging to a tree near the town of Darfield when he jumped into floodwaters and tried to swim to safety but was swept away, the military said.

UK weather: Hottest day of the year so far as temperatures hit 28.6C
Monday 14 June 2021

The UK has recorded its hottest day of the year so far, with London's Heathrow Airport hitting 28.6C (83.48F).

The previous high was 28.3C (83F) in Northolt, west London, on 2 June.

The Met Office has warned people to be prepared when heading out and about due to high UV and pollen levels across much of England and Wales.

It is forecast to stay hot for the next few days before thunderstorms move in across England and temperatures become cooler.

Yellow weather warnings are in place for the eastern half of Wales and much of England from Wednesday until Friday, with the Met Office saying there is potential for travel disruption and flooding.
