Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser may have founded a new studio
2nd July 2021

After leaving Rockstar Games last year, Dan Houser has registered a new UK company called Absurd Ventures in Games LTD.

The private limited company was incorporated on June 23. The actual purpose of the business is unknown, but the listing states it is for “Ready-made interactive leisure and entertainment software development.” This suggests it could become a new games studio.

VGC has also spotted that in February 2021, Houser also registered two businesses in the US. Both Absurd Ventures LLC and Absurd Ventures in Games LLC were listed, suggesting that upcoming projects may not be limited to video games.

The Delaware-based business is named the owner of all 100 shares for the Absurd Ventures in Games LTD in the UK.

The registered office address for the UK filling on Companies House is based in Altrincham, Cheshire. However, this address is the office of Oakwood Corporate Services, which advises thousands of companies on secretarial, corporate governance, and compliance issues. This suggests that no fixed headquarters location has been decided yet.

Surprise! Nintendo Switch OLED model announced, available in October 2021
Over the past two years, we’ve seen plenty of rumors related to a “Pro” model of the popular Nintendo Switch hybrid console. Rumors ramped up enough this year that we became confident we would see it launch before the end of 2021. Well, it turns out we were both right and wrong with our expectations because now we have the Nintendo Switch OLED Model

While this is an upgraded version of the original Switch console, it falls far shy of being the Pro-level model we were expecting. That being said, there’s still a lot to love about this upgraded version of the Switch.

Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about this new console!

My favourite moment in the game so far.

After completing this quest (to restore the city's water and fountains), you get to take a selfie in the middle of the zombie horde. :D

Gaming can be educational. :) Red Dead Redemption 2 is the game I played from Jan–May this year. I had a similar experience with Elite: Dangerous when learning the different star types.

"The results showed that gamers were better at identifying wildlife, with some players reporting increased knowledge about animal behaviour and ecology."

"... Now, game designers are aiming for a level of realism and detail so high that the worlds themselves can teach us something."

Netflix to expand into video games in earnest in the next year, report says
July 14, 2021

Netflix will expand into video games in the next year, widening from its bedrock business of TV and movies as the world's biggest subscription video service, according to a report by Bloomberg. This would move Netflix into a major entertainment segment -- gaming -- that it sees as some of its stiffest competition for your attention.

Netflix confirmed Wednesday that it's hired a former Oculus, Electronic Arts and Zynga executive, Mike Verdu, as vice president of games development. It declined to comment beyond his hiring.
