SpaceX Launched a Record-Breaking 133rd Falcon 9 Mission This Year
Combined with Starship launches, SpaceX has launched 138 rockets in 2025, beating its 2024 record for total launches, too.

SpaceX has launched its Falcon 9 rocket for the 133rd time this year, breaking its previous record from last year with two months yet to go. This highlights SpaceX's increased launch cadence alongside that of many of its global contemporaries, as the 21st century space race back to the Moon—and Mars—heats up.

The Falcon 9 isn't just SpaceX's workhorse rocket. It's become the main launch vehicle for the majority of launches from US soil in 2025, and though there are plenty of smaller rocket companies vying for the small-to-medium-lift vehicle market, Falcon 9 holds strong as the mainstay for nearly everything else. Starship is designed as a one-day replacement for larger launches, but the Falcon 9 is tried and tested and continues to have a near-perfect success rate following early launch mishaps in its development.

With 133 launches in 2025, SpaceX has broken all sorts of records and will continue to do so as the year draws to a close. China has accelerated its launch schedule too, having taken over 40 years to launch its first 500 Long March rockets, and less than two years to launch the last hundred.

SpaceX’s upgraded Starship suffers explosion during testing

Sean O'Kane

SpaceX rolled out an upgraded version of its Starship rocket booster in South Texas on Thursday to begin testing, and just a few hours later, something inside it exploded.

Livestreamers who watch SpaceX’s Starbase complex closely caught the explosion in the pre-dawn hours Friday, around 4:00 a.m. local time. Other creators in the area have since captured photos that offer a closer look at the damage.

Unlike the more fireball-type explosions SpaceX has dealt with while developing its rockets in the past, this one appears to have blown out an entire side of the lower section of the booster — and left the rest of it standing. It also happened very early in the process. The booster didn’t even have rocket engines installed yet, according to Ars Technica.

SpaceX Might Lose Almost No Time for Booster Shell, COPVs and Test Tank Loss
November 22, 2025 by Brian Wang
The loss of Booster 18 during gas pressure testing only cost SpaceX the shell of a booster. There were no raptor engines in it.

UPDATE SpaceX says they will stack the Booster 19 Super Heavy Booster in December, 2025. They plan to keep the flight test for First Quarter 2026.

This was the loss of only the shell, COPVs and test tank. It was a routine gas-system pressure test. It was before structural proof testing. The LOX tank ruptured around 4:04 a.m. CT on November 21, crumpling and blowing out the lower section (aft/LOX tank area) while leaving the upper structure partially intact.

SpaceX Double in Value and IPO in Late 2026
December 5, 2025 by Brian Wang
https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2025/12/s ... -2026.html
Today, the Wall Street Journal reported that SpaceX will raise at double its prior valuation. SpaceX last raised at $400 billion and will now raise at $800 billion. This increases the value of Echostar by $40 per share when fully confirmed. There is a discount because the 2.8% of SpaceX that Echostar will own through spectrum sales has not been fully approved by the FCC and DOJ. SpaceX is now reported to be planning an IPO in late 2026. The IPO would likely be priced around $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion and SpaceX would likely end up trading at about $2 trillion.
