IDK, this reminds me of that one time Arkansas refused to comply with something education-related. /j

Sunak defends sex education plans as ban on teaching gender identity compared to Thatcher’s hated Section 28

Rishi Sunak has defended his controversial sex education plans after they were compared to Margaret Thatcher’s hated Section 28.
Ministers are to bar sex education classes for children younger than nine years old.
And the teaching of gender identity will be banned right up until the age of 18, education secretary Gillian Keegan said.
Critics have compared the plans to the heavily criticised Section 28 policy, which prohibited the promotion of homosexuality by local authorities, including in schools.
Earlier, Ms Keegan admitted ministers did not know how widespread the teaching of "inappropriate" material about gender identity was.
I like MellieC's comment on it's comment section, citing: -
Tory party lessons on transpeople
1) it's impossible
2) it's vanishingly rare - it can't possibly be you
3) Even if it is possible and it is you, you had *damned * well better not choose be like that
4) It's all your fault
5) There's no such thing as a transgender child
6) If we ignore it and keep kids in the dark, they won't choose to be like that... and we can pretend it's an 'adult problem '
And yet...
1) It IS possible
2) It is a lot more prevalent than many choose to believe and occurs irrespective of geography, culture and time
3) Trans people do not choose their gender identity- it is thrust upon them, probably in foetal development
4) Oh puuuhleeease!!!
5) Most trans people know they don't fit into the norm around the age of cognisance (4,5,6)
6) It didn't stop it in the past- just drove people deeply into the closet so they ended up coming out later in life with massive consequences for their mental health
“In the quantum multiverse, every choice, every decision you've ever and never made exists in an unimaginably vast ensemble of parallel universes.”

New Hampshire has passed 3 anti-trans bills in a single day, with potentially more to come.
Bills passed include a sports ban, a bill defining LGBTQ+ topics as "objectionable" in school, and a surgery ban for youth.

Re: LGBT+ News and Discussions
The Peruvian govt's decision lacks some critical understanding. "Being trans" is not a mental illness; the dysphoria is. The treatment is taking steps to affirm their identity.

Read more here: https://elpais.com/america/2024-05-27/ ... rica.html(El País) “Another rubbish that promotes degeneration”, “pure weirdos”, “is that where my taxes go?”, “transvestism is not culture”, “put out vomit bags”. These are some of the subtleties that have been sparked by the announcement of the most recent premiere of Peruvian cinema: Arde Lima , the first documentary that will bring a dozen drag queens from the local scene to the big screen. An event in a country that does not have a Gender Identity Law, which recorded 88 hate crimes against the LGBTIQ+ population between 2012 and 2021 and which two weeks ago published a decree that qualifies them as mentally ill.
It is a mid-week morning at the cultural center of a Lima university and around thirty journalists have been summoned for an exclusive function, prior to the commercial premiere on May 30.
Don't mourn, organize.

Even when accounting for the Cass review, this does not negate the fact that the whole purpose of these "regulations" is to discriminate, not regulate

Federal judge blocks Biden administration move to expand Title IX protections for LGBTQ+ students
https://www.texastribune.org/2024/06/12 ... -students/
A Texas federal judge blocked the Biden administration's efforts to extend federal anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ+ students.
In his ruling Tuesday, Judge Reed O'Connor said the Biden administration lacked the authority to make the changes and accused it of pushing “an agenda wholly divorced from the text, structure, and contemporary context of Title IX.” Title IX is the 1972 law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational settings.
“To allow [the Biden administration’s] unlawful action to stand would be to functionally rewrite Title IX in a way that shockingly transforms American education and usurps a major question from Congress,” wrote O’Connor, a President George W. Bush appointee. “That is not how our democratic system functions.”
The Biden administration’s new guidelines, issued in April, expanded Title IX to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The changes would make schools and universities responsible for investigating a wider range of discrimination complaints.

Re: LGBT+ News and Discussions
Ok about the Cass Review imma just note down some key things I read from the Wikipedia article and my thoughts on them:
*Puberty blockers: can't disagree much on the findings about that- there's insufficient data, though Cass herself has stated in an interview with BBC that she "spoken to young people who definitely do appear to have benefited." This aligns with my experience with IRL trans friends. The issue at hand, as mentioned in the interview, is the lack of data. Of course we all know double-blind studies are impossible, as with many other treatments for unrelated conditions. (BBC article in question https://www.bbc.com/news/health-68863594)
*Social transitioning: IDK, the case of David Riemer, a boy raised as a girl in an attempt to deal with a surgery mishap, is strong evidence against the idea that you can raise a non-intersex child differently. However, the review focused on intersex individuals, and Riemer was definitely not intersex. It's also worth noting though that trans people aren't intersex, so IDK how well this translates to trans people, but rearing certainly doesn't play a huge role, because aren't they, uhhh, trans? Like, they don't identify with their assigned gender?
*Treatment in general: We need more research; furthermore each teenager presenting with dysphoria needs individualized professional medical attention (which many in fucked parts of America are not getting). TLDR it's a case by case thing, and WE NEED MORE RESEARCH
In an ideal world, this would be a clearly medical issue, with qualified professionals sorting everything out and everyone just being as nice as possible to each other, like normal human beings ffs. The hateful people are the ones that have thrown so much sand in the gears, preventing us from actually moving forward on these subjects. And now people have trust issues when reviews like this come out because of all the hateful people that spew endless vitriol.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around all this, and I want to clarify that I don't have beef with trans people, trans youth, or anything of the like. Still learning here. Though one thing is clear: the transphobes can fucking pound sand. If you're using this review as a vehicle to erase trans people from society, then you can politely eat shit.
