Once humanity starts spacefaring this issue will get solved by having humans or clones colonize the inhabitable zone planets and establish contact with anything out there. There are a lot of stars in the habitable zone and if it does not work there then go to a differ galaxy and try that again. A simple theory of course. We have not found anything because we are still trapped here in our own neighborhood and not exploring what is around so how can we know something else does not exist out there?
