Mom, why didn’t you give me better genes?
Would you like to genetically modify your child? Who should be allowed to make the decision, health care workers, parents or politicians? Who is responsible when it goes wrong?
We might not be able to design our babies just yet, but the possibility is fast approaching. The first genetically modified babies were born in November 2018. They were modified by the researcher He Jiankui who was later convicted by the Chinese government due to the illegal nature of the experiment.
During the investigation that followed it was revealed that He Jiankui had planned to open a genetic clinic for “elite customers”. Different fertility clinics around the globe are also offering an array of genetic tests and treatments, sometimes under very limited legal scrutiny.
But this is also a technology that might help eliminate some diseases and to ease the suffering of families with genetic disorders or fertility issues. For better or worse, gene editing is poised to change ourselves and our future children. It is a future we should start thinking about as soon as possible.
An interesting look at where things might be headed.

We could already do a "lite" version of this through IVF. Remove and fertilize 20 eggs, genetically screen the resulting zygotes, and use the one that has the best genetics. It's not technically "genetic engineering" since none of the zygotes' genomes are being altered, but it accomplishes nearly the same thing.
For an added bonus, fertilize the eggs with sperm from a man with outstanding traits (looks, intelligence, health), then take the best zygote.
If we repeated that process (use sperm or eggs from the best donors, then select the best zygote), we'd have practically superhuman offspring after three generations.

This is probably the only way we'll ever cure or come close to a cure for cancer, heart disease and so many other diseases.
Genetics plays a huge role in the quality of life of every body and there's no escaping this reality. It simply makes a lot more sense to go this way rather then the impossible of attempting to cure adults.

A very interesting concept, although I think websites that would do it may be more complex than what its shown here. I know its a concept and not necessarily real, but yeah, its a good hypothetical.

No one but a tall, beautiful, athletic woman with a genius-level IQ. In terms of genetic traits, she's in the 99th percentile of the human population. Through the application of technology, we could make people like her the new average in three generations, perhaps only two.
