From the Guardian:
According to an Office for National Statistics report out today, an estimated 1.2m people were suffering from long Covid - defined as experiencing symptoms for more than four weeks - at the end of October. That would amount to 1.9% of the population, or almost one person in 50.
Of those, 71% (an estimated 862,000 people) had had long Covid for at least 12 weeks, and 36% (an estimated 439,000) had had it for at least a year, the ONS says.
It also says 64% of long Covid sufferers (an estimated 775,000 people) said the condition had adversely affected their ability to carry out day-to-day activities, and 19% of sufferers (an estimated 232,000 people) said their ability to carry out these activities had been “limited a lot”.
These figures are in line with previous ONS reports on the impact of long Covid.

Germany locks down unvaccinated people, as leaders plan to make shots compulsory
Source: CNN

Read more: https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/02/europe/g ... index.htmlBerlin (CNN)Germany on Thursday announced a nationwide lockdown for the unvaccinated, as its leaders backed plans for mandatory vaccinations in the coming months.
Unvaccinated people will be banned from accessing all but the most essential businesses, such as supermarkets and pharmacies, to curb the spread of coronavirus, outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel and her successor, Olaf Scholz, announced Thursday, following crisis talks with regional leaders.
The pair also backed proposals for mandatory vaccinations, which if voted through the parliament could take effect from February at the earliest.
Under the tightened restrictions, unvaccinated people can only meet two people from another household. Bars and nightclubs must shut down in areas with an incidence rate above 350 cases per 100,000 people over one week. And the country would limit the number of people at large events like soccer matches.

Great news. I hope all nations eventually do this.
Unless they have a medical reason for staying unvaccinated, those who refuse a shot must be punished.

The latest wave of COVID-19 has hit Michigan harder than other almost every other state and it is starting to put a strain on the hospital systems.
It's being reported that more than 80% of inpatient hospital beds as well as 84% of all intensive care unit beds across the state are full. West Michigan has been hit particularly hard and some hospitals are starting to even turn patients away.
Spectrum Health has reported that they have been turning away transfer patients from other hospitals in the region because they just don't have the room to properly care for them. Normally, the hospital says that it facilitates around 50 transfer patients each day to its hospitals, but because of the COVID-19 surge in the region, beds just aren't available. The Spectrum Health system has reached a record number of patients in its hospitals throughout the region.

This is fucking amazing!!
I'm having trouble coming up with a more useless "strategy" no matter how hard I try. What the f*ck are more vaccination sites going to do when we're already throwing out doses? What the f*ck is the point of the one day negative test rule when people are clearly catching this on airplanes and not testing positive for several days after arrival? Insurance reimbursement? Are you fucking kidding me?President Biden, confronting a worrisome new coronavirus variant and the potential of a winter surge, will lay out a new pandemic strategy on Thursday afternoon that includes hundreds of vaccination sites aimed at families, booster shots for all adults, insurance reimbursement for at-home coronavirus tests and fresh travel restrictions, including a requirement that international travelers must show proof of a negative coronavirus test taken within a day before departing for the United States.
God, Biden fucking SUCKS!!

Re: COVID-19 News and Discussions
well my landlord and his wife told me as I was handing rent to them, that they were exposed during thanksgiving with family. They've both had it and recieved the vaccine but their family has refused the vaccine and now several of them have it. Meanwhile the day after they visited family and were exposed they were in our living space using our kitchen to prepare additional food for guests they had that day, while I left to go spend time with my family who have all been vaccinated. I'm still a bit pissed about all that. but I guess we'll see what happens.
So this suggests we will see a rise in the numbers of people having it after thanksgiving gatherings. and some folks will have passed it on unknowingly while asymptomatic or presymptomatic for the next 10-12 days or more. and those they spread it to may not be symptomatic for another 14 days after that if at all. so people gathering for christmas will likely see a spiked rise in cases at that time, and I imagine another spike afterwards for just long enough to have kids go back to school, and college. AKA incubation facilities. I think by the second anniversary of Covid in the US we will see the reprecussions of this holidays season. and we will have a sense of the omicron strain and what that will mean for the rest of 2022.

Well, we are all sitting ducks with the politicians leaving borders open and everyone socializing. Weeeeeeee....... Although my province may be instituting new measures starting Monday before Omicron arrives so we will see if we go back into fortress Atlantic Canada again or not.
I'm most interested about how Omicron interactions with the vaccinated as I have heard those are mostly mild.
The anti-vaxxers on the other hand look like they are dealing with a Delta level virus or worse. And it appears Omicron likes targeting younger people.
