My Dad want's to be Euthanised as he has a disease that gets worse over time is morbidly obese and according to an eye doctor may now be going blind.

If I reach the age where I need to be put in a nursing home and no AI/Anti ageing has come about turning out to be a cope filled lie about the near future I would probably want to be euthanised and put in cryonics if legal to do so.

Austria's parliament legalizes assisted suicide

16.12.2021

Austrian lawmakers have approved a law that legalizes assisted suicide for seriously ill people, subject to tight rules. A law banning the practice was set to expire, which would have left the matter unregulated.

The Austrian parliament on Thursday voted to legalize assisted suicide from January after a court ruling said its ban breached fundamental human rights.

The ban would have expired at the end of this year anyway, and the new legislation means it can only take place in accordance with strict criteria.

The Assisted Suicide Act gives the option of an advance directive — similar to a living will — only to people over 18 who are terminally ill or suffer from a permanent, debilitating condition.

Each case is to be assessed by two doctors, one of whom would have to be an expert in palliative medicine. As part of their duties, they must determine whether a patient is opting for euthanasia independently.

First Colombian with non-terminal illness dies legally by euthanasia

January 9, 2022 12:42 AM GMT

Colombian Victor Escobar became the first person in the Andean country with a non-terminal illness to die by legally regulated euthanasia late on Friday, his lawyer Luis Giraldo confirmed.

"We reached the goal for patients like me, who aren't terminal but degenerative, to win this battle, a battle that opens the doors for the other patients who come after me and who right now want a dignified death," Escobar, 60 said in a video message sent to media by Giraldo.

On Saturday, a second Colombian, a woman with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALA), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, was euthanized.

Several arrested after woman dies in 'suicide pod'

Police in Switzerland made multiple arrests after someone reportedly ended their life using a so-called suicide pod, in apparently the first case of its kind.

Police in the Schaffhausen region said they arrested "several persons" on suspicion of inciting, and aiding and abetting suicide after someone died reportedly by using a Sarco-made pod on Monday.

While assisted dying is legally protected in some circumstances in Switzerland, the Sarco pod has encountered some opposition.

Officers recovered the device and body at the scene.

Streeting will vote against assisted dying law

23 October 2024, 11:25 BST

Health Secretary Wes Streeting will vote against changing the law on assisted dying, the BBC has confirmed.

Backbench Labour MP Kim Leadbeater has put forward a bill proposing that terminally ill adults nearing the end of their lives get the right to choose to shorten their deaths if they wish.

But in a meeting of Labour MPs on Monday, Streeting said he did not believe the palliative care system was good enough to support assisted dying.

The prime minister has made clear the government will remain neutral on the issue and MPs will be given a free vote.

A similar move was rejected by MPs in 2015, but recent polling has consistently suggested a majority of the public supports a change in the law.

I genuinely didn't expect this to pass.

Quite a historic vote. I agree with it, tbh.

MPs back proposals to legalise assisted dying

29 November 2024, 14:26 GMT

MPs have backed proposals to legalise assisted dying in England and Wales in a historic vote which paves the way for a change in the law.

Under draft legislation being considered by Parliament, terminally ill adults expected to die within six months could seek help to end their own life.

In the first Commons vote on the issue in nearly a decade, MPs supported the bill by 330 to 275, a majority of 55.

The bill will now face many more months of debate and scrutiny by MPs and peers, who could choose to amend it, with the approval of both Houses of Parliament required before it becomes law.

MPs were given a free vote, meaning they could make a decision based on their own conscience rather than having to follow a party line.

better than no change

A change for the better, but still it would be far better in my opinion to not have to resort to such measures, and instead improve their conditions significantly enough for them to not want euthanasia anymore. I personally don't know anyone like that, except maybe ... myself, depending on a day and hour.

Not much to improve for someone who is already next to die.

Suicide pod will be ready to use in UK, inventor says

Dr Philip Nitschke is hoping that doctors will embrace his Sarco pod, created with a 3D printer, when the assisted dying bill becomes law

June 20 2025

An Australian right-to-die campaigner has vowed to bring a double-suicide pod to the UK after the bill to legalise assisted dying passed its final vote in the Commons.

MPs voted on Friday by a majority of 23 to approve Kim Leadbeater’s Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.

The legislation will go to the next stage of scrutiny in the House of Lords but with the bill expected to become law, Dr Philip Nitschke, a prominent advocate for assisted dying, said he hoped to use his controversial Sarco suicide capsule in Britain for the first time.

Terminally ill people in England and Wales with fewer than six months to live will be allowed to apply for an assisted death, subject to approval by two doctors and a panel featuring a social worker, senior legal figure and psychiatrist.

The dying person must administer an approved substance themselves, but the bill does not detail what this medication should be.
